This is a hands-on position that requires the ability to diagnose and repair trash compactors, including electrical and hydraulic components. This role can also include site repairs such as bailers, tarps and chutes. When there isn't enough sitework, you may be asked to work in the shop on assembling power units or other mechanical or welding tasks. The standard hours are 6:00-3:30 with overtime and on-call required. This is a REMOTE opportunity, you will not be required to report to an office but will be dispatched to calls from your home. Ability to diagnose and identify issues with compactors quickly and accurately
Ability to weld
Proficiency in using tools for diagnostics, repairs and maintenance
Understanding of the principles behind compactor operations and ability to troubleshoot
The ability to lift heavy equipment and perform physical tasks associate with mechanical repairs
Stamina to handle physically demanding aspects of the job
Ability to keep accurate records of repairs, parts used, maintenance activities and time spent on job
Provide detailed reports of the machine prior to and after the repairs are completed
Creative problem-solving skills to address unique and complex issues that may arise during repairs
Analytical thinking to assess the root cause of the repair needs
Clean and lubricate compactors to prevent wear and tear
Electrical troubleshooting, utilize advanced electrical knowledge to identify, diagnose and repair issues to ensure effective operation of the equipment and minimize downtime
PLC experience - ability to interface with the program and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers systems that are integral to keeping the equipment operational
Prior experience with limit switches, photo-eye sensors and/or solenoids are beneficial

High School Diploma or GED required; supplemented by vocational training and two years as an automobile technician or four years of experience demonstrating progressive skills in the mechanical repair of vehicles.
Must possess or obtain, and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
Two (2) or more Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) current certifications preferred.
Tasks require the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds).

Position Summary:
Phigenics is seeking a candidate with a flexible schedule interested in working 20-40 hours per month on average. Water Management Equipment Technicians (WMETs) will report to the Director of Field Services and provide service and account management support for clients in a region. WMETs service existing clients by taking water tests, maintaining equipment, and assisting in maintaining Comprehensive Water Management Programs by analyzing microbiological and water chemistry data and responding quickly, professionally, and accurately to client requests. WMETs may be asked to perform minor maintenance on water monitoring equipment, take on-site readings via testing instruments (i.e., chlorine, temperature, and pH readings), and collect building water samples to be sent to a lab for cultures. Once fully trained, the employee may be expected to mentor or train peers to ensure consistent knowledge sharing and team development. Candidates must live in the Chicago, IL metro area.
Skills and Qualifications:
Background in science, engineering, or mathematics preferred
Ability to learn how to use equipment that measures pH, temperature, and residual oxidant in water

Work Environment / Travel
Position requires traveling to client sites in a region, servicing equipment, and collecting water samples. Travel radius is approximately 100 miles. Mileage reimbursement is available. The wearing of PPE is sometimes required. The position often requires a great deal of walking around client sites, may include climbing stairs or ladders, and may require lifting up to 25 pounds. May provide occasional support in other regions.
