    Kenyon College is conducting a search for a full-time custodian, 2nd shift. The rate of pay is $13.00/hour with a 5% shift premium. This position is currently on an 8 year tiered pay scale, with an .89 cent increase per year. At the start of the 9th year, the rate of pay will increase to the cap wage. The current cap wage is $19.47/hr. The work schedule for this position will be Sunday - Thursday, 3:00pm - 11:30pm with a half hour unpaid lunch. Some of the duties for this position will include, but are not limited to, the following: Lift, carry and move materials, supplies, furniture and equipment in a safe and careful manner. Use various hand and/or powered cleaning equipment such as, dust and scrub mops, vacuum cleaners, buffer/floor polishers and carpet shampoo/extractor equipment. Use various chemicals and cleaning products in a safe manner for the purpose intended, in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and material safety data sheets. Collect trash in campus buildings and around entry areas and place in appropriate containers in designated spaces. Strip and wax floors and shampoo/extract carpets as directed. Clean building entrances and sweep surrounding walks. Shovel snow at building entrances and surrounding sidewalks and spread de-icing chemicals to provide safe access. Report all damage, safety hazards and other discrepancies noted in buildings and equipment that require the services of other college employees or a contractor to correct. Assist in collecting recycling. Act as group leader when so designated by supervisor. Perform various other duties, as may be assigned by a supervisor. Minimum Qualifications: Ability to use hand powered cleaning equipment. Ability to read, comprehend and follow instructions on product labels. Ability to comprehend and follow verbal and/or written instructions for work assignments and work cooperatively as a team member, or independently with minimal supervision. Responsibilities: Maintains knowledge of principles of hard-surface floor maintenance and use proper procedures on hard floor care including stripping and refinishing, burnishing, spray cleaning, and spray buffing. Utilize automated equipment for cleaning of large area of floor surface. Use the proper procedures on carpet and upholstering including shampooing, damp surface, extractions, spot cleaning, vacuuming, etc. Operate the industrial floor care equipment as assigned. Perform maintenance and restorative processes for all floor surface types. Clean floors: Dry mop, wet mop, sweep, disinfect where and when necessary. Vacuum carpeting/rugs and spot clean. Shampoo carpets as assigned. Refinish floors: strip, seal, put on finish and spray buff floors. Knowledge of housekeeping equipment (rotary floor buffer and carpet cleaner, extractor, pressure cleaner). Ability to do minor repairs on vacuum cleaners and floor and carpet equipment. Follow cleaning schedule (daily, weekly, monthly, etc.) as outlined for the ESS Department. Clean assigned areas, furnishings, and fixtures according to established procedures. Move and clean furnishings and fixtures, including but not limited to dusting, spot cleaning, and washing. Disinfect when necessary and polish when required. Clean offices, dining rooms, break rooms, laundry rooms, resident rooms, resident apartments, storage rooms, halls, stairways, entrances and exits. Support campus-wide waste management by collecting and transporting trash and recycling from multiple designated refuse rooms. Perform cleaning duties in isolation units. Perform emergency housekeeping when accidents occur, including but not limited to bodily fluid clean up. Straighten or rearrange furniture as directed. Remove for cleaning and re-hang when clean, curtains, drapes, or dividers. Qualification: A desire to make a difference! Willingness to grow! High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
