Position, secure, and align cutting tools in tool holders on the machine using hand tools, verifying accuracy with measuring instruments. Adjust and set cutting speeds, depths, and feed rates to optimize machining efficiency. Run machines through full cycles, stopping to adjust tool positions and machine controls as needed to maintain precision. Observe machine operations, inspect finished parts, and verify conformance with specifications using measuring instruments. This position is responsible for the operation and maintenance of MSD machining equipment including basic levels of machine programming and troubleshooting to fabricate precision parts for developmental and manufacturing efforts. Additionally this role provides mechanical support to produce or repair product and/or equipment across multifunctional teams and departments. Structured Mentorship: Participate actively in our internal Screw Machine Training program with dedicated one-on-one mentorship. Quality & Inspection: Develop the skill to use precision measuring tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers) and apply shop mathematics to inspect parts and ensure they meet blueprint specifications. Process Improvement: Understand and adhere to all documented processes and procedures related to machine operation and part inspection. Maintenance: Assist with essential daily machine maintenance activities to ensure optimal performance and longevity of equipment. Prior hands-on experience or coursework demonstrating mechanical aptitude (e.g., auto mechanics, maintenance, manufacturing, or vocational technical training). Familiarity with interpreting basic engineering blueprints or schematics. Basic understanding of and ability to use precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.). Previous experience in a metal manufacturing or fabrication environment. A great attitude, strong work ethic, and excellent attendance record are non-negotiable. A strong self-motivation and willingness to actively pursue learning a complex trade. Technical Requirements High degree of mechanical aptitude, accuracy and precision. Thorough knowledge of manufacturing, tool design, fabrication methods and processes, metallurgy and heat treating. Working knowledge of welding, hydraulics, electricity and pneumatics. Proficient in the use of precision measuring instruments and hand tools. Ability to read, understand and interpret blueprints. Strong mathematical aptitude. Working knowledge of related company instructions, company processes, rework process instructions, original equipment manufacturer manuals, and MSDS labels. Working knowledge of production management computer systems and other related internal control systems. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (unassisted) for approximately 25% of the average work day. Regularly required to stand for prolonged periods. Completion of a machinist apprenticeship program; or equivalent. Attainment of trade certification.
