Position Overview:
Under the supervision of the Inspection Supervisor, the Mosquito ControlInspector conducts field inspections, treats for mosquito larvae and adults, and provides public education in the assigned area of operation; provides maintenance and service to vehicles and equipment.
Duties & Responsibilities:
* Inspects for mosquito public health pest problems specifically larval development sites and mosquito adult populations within Harris County and but not limited to the ship channel and bordering wetlands and waterways, including dredge spoil areas, storm sewers, catch basins, ditches etc.
* During inspections sample/collect adult and larval populations to identify them as appropriate, photograph/map mosquito breeding sites for potential litigation use, deploy light traps, preform landing rates to determine adult migration patterns, and record all data collected into the database.
* Performs appropriate control measures to mosquito populations or other pests as required.
* Uses pesticides in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines, and records all usage.
* Monitors application rate and checks chemical calibration.
* Analyzes meteorological, tidal data and larval development sites to forecast larval hatch and adult emergence.
* Inspects vehicle and equipment used daily, performs minor field maintenance on spray equipment, helps mechanic with minor repairs, and assists in mixing insecticides.
* Perform nighttime ULV (Ultra Low Volume) applications to control mosquito populations in assigned areas based on disease surveillance and division needs
* Other duties as assigned including special tasks involved in responding to an emergency event.

* Must be able to lift 70 lbs., be in good physical health, able to tolerate high heat and humidity for extended periods of time outdoors while working in a variety of urban and natural environments. Work is performed under the general direction of the Code Compliance/Environmental Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* Prepares, organizes, and leads quarterly workshops tailored for pool operators, pool owners, and pool construction companies to ensure compliance with the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act, Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC), and the 2018 International Swimming Pool and Spa Code (ISPSC) or earlier edition.
* Responds to citizen requests for information regarding the Pool Safely Grant, the 2018 ISPSC, and applicable city codes and ordinances.
* Schedules and inspects residential and commercial pools for compliance with applicable local codes and zoning ordinances and to comply with the minimum quota required by the Pool Safely Grant.
* Completes inspection reports and related documentation in a timely manner and to Pool Safely Grant standards.
* Assures inspections are scheduled, performed, and inputted in a timely manner.
* Provides information to owners or other customers regarding City codes and zoning ordinances as well as CPSC brochure materials.
* Provides information on other city agencies and departments when needed.
* Works closely with the Special Projects Department and the Finance Department to ensure grant compliance and timely submission of quarterly reports required by the Pool Safely Grant.
* Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
Additional Requirements:
* This position requires the use of a personal vehicle for City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record and proof of insurance. Mileage reimbursement will be provided.
* Some positions will require the performance of other essential and marginal functions depending upon location, assignment, or shift.

* Oversee soil embankment operations to ensure that methods are performed to meet minimum criteria for compaction and density testing.
* Conduct proof roll testing to ensure that materials are being placed on sub-surfaces that are suitable and are not exhibiting pumping or characteristics of a weak foundation.
* Utilize tools such as a smart level, engineering scales, concrete and asphalt thermometers to assist with adherence to plans and quality assurance.

Working Conditions

The Inspector normally works an average of 40 hours per week from a home office with artificial light and temperature control. Inherent in the job is the responsibility and expectation that work weeks of longer duration may be necessary. Provide a detailed explanation of inspection results to customers
Demonstrate how the treatment will effectively address the specific issues found during the inspection
Develop a clear and detailed diagram of the property highlighting where the termite treatment system will be placed
Ensure the diagram is easy to understand and accurately represents the planned installation
Use the diagram to explain the installation process and benefits to the customer
Work schedule includes every other Saturday
Qualifications:
1+ years of successful, prior Termite sales experience preferred but not required
A US driver's license that has been valid for a minimum of 3 years is required
A clean driving record is required (no more than one moving violation in the past year and no more than 2 moving violations in the past 4 years)
A drug test and background check will be performed on all new hires
Ability to pass and maintain any state regulatory agency-required licensing/certification exams
