DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a Medical Records Examiner, you will be responsible for conducting utilization reviews. This involves evaluating medical information, records, and reports to assess the necessity and appropriateness of care and services provided to State Workers' Insurance Fund (SWIF) covered individuals. Work also includes assessing care or treatment plans; providing authorization for services, medications, or durable medical equipment; and verifying codes associated with claims, determining which diagnoses are related to the work injury. You will have the opportunity to network with other SWIF divisions such as claims services, legal, and fraud as well as external organizations such as pharmacy benefit managers, contractors, and third-party administrators. Additional responsibilities include:
Reviewing medical bills to evaluate compensability of services and appropriate payment amounts
Monitoring medical management reports and nursing care plans
Providing assistance and direction to field office staff
Utilizing standard office applications and SWIF specific systems, such as the Workers' Compensation Automation and Integration System (WCAIS)

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment
Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Scranton. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Three years of professional experience in the field of medicalassistance, health care services, or human services; or
An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
This position requires active authorization to practice as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.
Employees possessing an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure as a Registered Nurse within the one (1) year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.

Examples of Essential Duties
Assists clinicians in the direct care of patients and in conducting physical examinations. Takes and records pre-examination information from patients including vital signs, height and weight measurements, and medical histories.
Collects, prepares, and tests various laboratory specimens. Performs venipuncture, hearing and vision screening, and associated clinical procedures.
Performs non-invasive simple dressing changes to wounds. Prepares, sets up, and closes out examination rooms. Sets up, maintains, cleans, and sterilizes medical instruments and equipment.
Assists homebound patients with activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, and grooming. Monitors, documents, and reports on the condition of patients. Maintains and distributes inventories of medical and office supplies. Assists in the preparation and maintenance of medical records, files, and reports. Assists physicians and nurses in the provision of various occupational health services in employee health clinics.
Makes referrals to internal and external stakeholders to address social determinants of health.
Assists nurses and clients with scheduling appointments and arranges transportation as necessary.
Answers phone calls, triages and transfers calls as necessary.
Prepare letters, mail and/or deliver to clients homes.

This is an unpaid Volunteer/Intern position for Active Duty Service members participating in the SkillBridge program prior to completion of military service. Internship is limited to 180 days, however amount of days will be based on unit command approval. Must be available to work 40 hour per week, schedule will be four, 10 hour shifts. Essential Functions:
As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, this classification may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. Performs various administrative tasks including, but not limited to maintaining patients' medical charts and files, arranging collection and delivery of laboratory samples and patient's medication, monitoring and recording medication inventories, scheduling consultations, x-rays, and routine TB-related tests for patients, and registering patients with emocha Health and Straight Talk Prevention Services.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certification AND six (6) months of medicalassistance work experience OR enrollment in a certified MedicalAssistant (MA) Program or certification from a valid educational institute.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Collect and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis (blood, urine, saliva samples).
Ensure proper labeling of tubes, fill out requisition forms correctly.
Monitor lab equipment and inventory.
Performs data entry of customer information in an accurate and timely manner.
Provides excellent customer service to all customers.
Collects specimens for various products and services including clinical, paternity, drug screens and injections, etc.
Manage emails and telephone calls.
Receive and send lab reports.
Direct contact with customers; Helps create an atmosphere of trust and confidence.
Job Duties:Responsible for accurately obtaining blood samples via venipuncture and capillary collection procedures with minimum customer discomfort. Provides care to patients whose ages range from infant to geriatric. Ensures specimen integrity by adhering to the laboratory's procedures for specimen collection, handling, and processing. Adheres to departmental policies and procedures to include departmental programs, quality control, quality assurance, and safety.
Follows laboratory procedures for specimen collection and handling. Correctly identifies patients and properly labels specimens. Correctly identifies and utilizes proper tubes, containers, transport media, and storage temperature for each test type. Correctly identifies proper priority for the collection process. Follows appropriate guidelines as established by the laboratory for missed draws, recollects, or difficult sticks.In order to be considered for this position please reply with your resume + cover letter.
