DESCRIPTION: This is paraprofessional support work involving the direct care, rehabilitation, and behavior modification of patients in state institutions. Responsibilities include implementing programs in the treatment or education of the mentally ill or developmentally disabled, providing direct patient care, and maintaining resident areas. Employees may act as group leader or primary aide over an assigned group of patients. Work is performed under general supervision.
REPRESENTATIVE TASKS:

Observes and records patient behavior and submits observations to treatment team in order to assist in the development of individual treatment plan (ITP).
Implements specific treatment programs of re-motivation and re-socialization training for patients in order to provide direct care to residents.
Responds to and interacts with patients, intervening when necessary, in order to provide a role model of appropriate behavior.
Talks to and contacts family or outside agencies as delegated by supervisor in order to relay information or make arrangements for aspects of patient treatment.
Guides, trains, and motivates patients in daily living and work activities such as maintaining their own living area and personal hygiene in order to develop individual skills.
Prepares and dispenses medication under supervision of Registered Nurse (RN) in order to ensure patients receive proper medication on time.
Takes and records vital signs in order to document patient condition and keep accurate records.
Administers minor first aid to patients in order to take care of emergencies.
Changes bed linens and clothing; and sorts, counts, distributes, and collects clean and/or soiled linen and clothing in order to maintain patients living areas.
Distributes and serves food, maintains food serving and dining areas, and picks up trays in order to ensure patients are properly fed and established cleanliness and sanitary standards are met.
Observes habitual conduct of patients and reports to supervisor in order to advise of any change in behavior.
Writes records and other papers in order to document patient treatment and progress.
Cleans, dusts, mops, and vacuums activity and patient living areas in order to ensure proper standards of cleanliness.
Washes and bathes patients in order to ensure residents are kept clean.
Participates in in-service training programs in order to develop skills and knowledges and enhance effectiveness.

Core Responsibilities:
This is professional services work in responding to customer service inquiries; facilitating all aspects of statewide training within the Division of Support Enforcement & Recovery (DSER); assisting with internal audits and evaluations; and conducting outreach to educate the community on DSER. In this role you will apply critical thinking and develop strong working relationships to identify problems in order to collaboratively develop strategies to assist in successful resolutions with District office staff. Job duties include, but are not limited to:
o Responding to inquiries verbally and in writing

Minimum Qualifications:

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT The Sheriff's Office provides patrol, traffic enforcement, criminal investigations, search and rescue, marine patrol, law enforcement contracts countywide, jail operations, and supervision of parole and probation offenders.
A MentalHealth and Evaluation Specialist performs professional mentalhealth and evaluation work involving the assessment, counseling, and consultation of justice-involved individuals within Community Corrections, jail release, and transitional settings. Provides clinical assessments and consultative input to support treatment planning and continuity of care. Collaborates with probation officers, case managers, and partner staff by offering clinical perspective to support supervision activities.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the intermittent supervision of a Division Commander or designee who assigns work by defining objectives, priorities, and deadlines and receives clinical supervision from a Health and Human services Clinical Supervisor. The supervisor assists with unusual situations and provides clear objectives. The employee plans and conducts successive steps, resolves issues and variations, and applies policies and accepted practices. The supervisor reviews work for technical adequacy and compliance with standards and procedures.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervision is not a primary responsibility; however, this classification includes lead work. If a supervisor assigns an employee lead worker duties as described in the Marion County Personnel Rules, the employee is ineligible for additional compensation.
* Assessment and Evaluation
* Assess adult offenders under the supervision of the Marion County Sheriff's Office and residents of the Transition Center.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES This is a journey-level para-professional classification. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Either I Experience: The equivalent of two years of full-time experience as a MentalHealthSpecialist II. Or II Experience: The equivalent of three years of full-time experience performing clinical services, including providing psychiatric and/or vocational counseling services to assigned mentalhealth, drug and alcohol and/or dually diagnosed clients in a clinical or mentalhealth setting, in which the work is comparable to the MentalHealthSpecialist II. License: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license is desirable. Possession of a Psychiatric Technician or LVN license may be required. Special Conditions: Positions may be required to work some weekends or evenings. Special Requirement: In compliance with the Administrative Simplification provision of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), employees in this classification are required to possess a National Provider Identifier (NPI) number prior to their first day on the job. General Job Information This position is located in the Health & Human Services Department, Service Design and Engagement, Public Services Division at the DC Public Library (DCPL). The Health & Human Services Department focuses on providing enhanced library services, social services, and public health services to the District's most vulnerable residents and to support staff in their work with these patrons. The Department does this using trauma-informed and harm-reduction approaches to serving patrons. For the past five years, DCPL has offered peer support to customers experiencing homelessness, mentalhealth, and substance use challenges. Currently, three DC Department of Behavioral Health Certified Peer Support Specialists, led by a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, provide emotional support and referrals to services to DCPL's unhoused customers and those with co-occurring disorders.
The MentalHealthSpecialist is part of an interdisciplinary team that includes the Health & Human Services Manager, the Health & Human Services Assistant Manager, and three Certified Peer Support Specialists. Responsibilities include providing a wide variety of social work supports, focusing on making connections with customers inside DCPL library branches. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

The incumbent must possess a master's degree in social work or counseling and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker license (LCSW) and/or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCP) certification. The BBAY uses a collective impact framework for shared action. The Youth Engagement Specialist's position will be responsible for a robust recruitment and outreach strategy for youth in Brooklyn Center and Brooklyn Park at their schools and across partner organizations to participate in conversations, opportunities, initiatives, and programs available at the Brooklyn Bridge Alliance for Youth and its partner organizations.

The specialist will support these efforts and leverage adults to help build a network of partners who will also recruit and support youth in participating.
This position is an essential part of the Alliance Team, which includes an Executive Director, Data and Quality Coordinator, Youth and Community Engagement Initiatives Coordinator and the Black Youth MentalHealth Coordinator. This position will report to the BYMH Coordinator.

Assists in the development of effective casework procedures. May carry a reduced caseload. Coordinates the work of the Department of Corrections with law enforcement agencies and interested public. Makes recommendations to supervised services regarding supervised or retention of incarcerated individuals. May act as Facility Captain during his/her absence.

The Metro MentalHealthSpecialist works as a team member of a multi-disciplinary homeless street outreach team (MDT), in collaboration with social service professionals, ensuring the delivery of quality care in accordance with the rules and regulations established by the Los Angeles Department of Health Services (DHS).
The Metro MentalHealthSpecialist as part of the DHS ICMS Street Based Engagement Outreach (SBE) Team, will work in a variety of settings that will involve traveling on public transportation and on HYC designated vehicles. The Metro MentalHealthSpecialist will travel with the MDT Outreach team to a variety of sites including but not limited to transit stops on bus and rail line stops/stations, homeless encampments, shelters, drop-in centers, mobile outreach teams, and other areas as designated by DHS.
The MentalHealthSpecialist will use the whatever it takes approach to help people experiencing homelessness with mentalhealth support and interventions on the field.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Facilitate connections with local mentalhealth providers to establish a network of resources.
Provides mentalhealth assessments, counseling, and interventions when necessary.
Provide crisis intervention implementation, especially for clients experiencing the effects of mentalhealth crisis.
Facilitate training among the MDT team regarding helpful practices, methods, and interventions for addressing mentalhealth among people experiencing homelessness.
Collaborate with the MDT outreach team to engage with people experiencing homelessness on the Metro transit system and help connect them to local resources to help them achieve their goals and improve their quality of life.
Conduct triage and assessment tools to understand the needs of individuals seeking services.
Develop care plans and treatment plans and be able to help clients maintain and implement goals towards addressing housing insecurity, mentalhealth, and substance use disorders.
Meet with established clients on a regular basis to review, evaluate, and support goal completion.
Help connect clients to mainstream benefits.
Maintain documentation standards as set forth by the program contract and HYC polices.
Complete all necessary paperwork to track client progress (daily logs, ISP, etc.) as well as enter information into the appropriate data management system (HMIS).
Compete paperwork on each face-to-face and telephone contact with the client or any collateral contact by close of business on the next working day.
Must demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through inclusive service delivery, continued learning and development, modeling inclusive behaviors, contributing to an inclusive work environment, proactively mitigating bias in internal and external systems as well as interactions with internal and external stakeholders.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

LICENSING, CERTIFICATION AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
* Applicants are required to possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid California Driver's license, Class C.
* Incumbents are required to possess a current First Aid and Personal Safety certificate or obtain one within 60 days of appointment.
* Incumbents are required to possess a current CPR certificate or obtain one within 60 days of appointment.
* Incumbents have limited Peace Officer powers as delineated in the California Penal Code and therefore are required to complete training under Section 832 of the California Penal Code or equivalent within twelve (12) months of appointment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position plays a significant role in providing services to incarcerated patients in the Medical Health Services Delivery System. As a reminder, regularly assigned staff working with incarcerated patients that have been identified with mentalhealth concerns should utilize their knowledge, skills and training. Your role in collaboration between custody, nursing and mentalhealth staff in assisting with interventions and strategies to work with the mentalhealth population is critical to the success of the program.
Under the general direction of the Associate Warden/HCA Captain, the Correctional Counselor II (Specialist) will perform the following:
Regularly attend UCC, ICC, sub-committee, and functions as the Classification Recorder. Scrutinize all relevant case factors and assure compliance with Section 2930/2933 of Penal Code. Prepare cases for classification, ensuring clarity and accuracy. Responsible for scheduling UCC and ICC. Coordinate Committees with clinical staff and attend Interdisciplinary Treatment Teams, Interdisciplinary Support Team, and Vitek hearings. Monitor institutional changes affecting MHSDS.
Complete/respond to incarcerated people's appeals and special case action, i.e., Temporary Community Leave (TCL's) pre-release reports, BPT reports, Deputy Director reports and Director reports, assuring quality and content. Conduct regular audit of casework services. Provide classification services to the assigned MHSDS caseload.
Respond to incarcerated people's request for interviews, referrals from Facility Captain's, Lieutenants, or clinicians. Investigate and respond to incarcerated people's appeals at Informal, First, or Second Level. Participate in facility counseling services ensuring consistency of services and input. Instructs and/or assists with In-Service Training Programs.
Conduct formalized training for facility or complex staff. Distribute and explain changes on prison operational procedures or departmental policies. Maintain personal training responsibility. Maintain on-going familiarity of counseling procedures and peace officer requirements. Maintain yearly qualifications in weapons training, chemical agents and restraints. Replace and/or assist custodial staff during emergency situations. Respond to major Riots or incidents as a code III responder. Participate in regularly scheduled facility complex or prison meetings. Participate in Prison Task Force Meetings and complete assigned staff work. Special assignments as required.
BPH Duties: Responsible for assisting incarcerated persons with disabilities in understanding, preparing for, and participating in the BPH suitability hearing process as needed. Review SOMS and DECS/BITS to identify the incarcerated person's need for assistance, primary and secondary method of effective communication, adaptive support needs, assistive device(s), or software (e.g., electronic magnifier, personal sound amplification device, Microsoft Ease of Access, etc.) that are required to accommodate the incarcerated person for BPH proceedings. Accommodations shall be provided in a manner to allow privacy and independence. Review BITS at least weekly for any assignments associated with a BPH proceeding. Meet with the incarcerated person and complete a CDC Form 128B, BPH Accommodations Questionnaire, when prompted do so by BITS. Serve the incarcerated person with a Notice of DPV/DNV Rights for BPH Proceedings or a Notice of Deaf-Signer Rights for BPH Proceedings, as applicable.
Attends a combination of 40 hours In-Service Training/On-the-Job Training annually. Perform any other duties as directed by the Associate Warden of Healthcare or the designee. Perform administrative duties including, but not limited to: adhere to Department policies, rules and procedures; submit administrative requests including leave, travel, and training in a timely and appropriate manner; accurately report time and submit timesheets by the due date.

Under general supervision of the Correctional Counselor II, Supervisor and the indirect supervision of the Facility Captain, the Correctional Counselor I (CC-I), a sworn peace officer, interviews inmates and evaluates their adjustment to and progress in correctional treatment programs; counsels inmates on personal, institutional and family problems; collects, evaluates and records social, behavioral, and vocational data on inmates; extrapolates from and contributes to cumulative case history data and makes recommendations pertinent to classification and assignment planning; identifies and reports on special, educational, self-help, vocational, and other programs provided by the Division of Rehabilitative Programs (DRP) as a basis for recommending appropriate programs or vocational training; makes recommendations on changes in classification assignments; prepares board reports on Life Term inmates for Board of Parole Hearings, prepares pre-release reports for field use; regularly updates placement score and schedules cases for Unit Classification Committee (UCC) and/or Institutional Classification Committee (ICC) and transfer as indicated. Prepares DRB, PC 1171(d) and 1203.03 reports and performs peace officer duties as required. Replaces and/or assists custodial staff during emergency situations such as escapes or riots; utilizes de-escalation/communication/use of force techniques to defend the safety and security of a correctional institution; maintains order and supervises the conduct of inmates; protects and maintains the safety of public, staff, inmates and property while enforcing state and Federal laws, rules, and regulations; inspects premises and searches inmates for contraband; documents incidents per policy and procedures.

KVSP is a Level IV facility consisting of four semi-autonomous 180 designed facilities and two stand-alone Administrative Segregation Units, all surrounded by a Lethal Electrified Perimeter Fence.
This is a Correctional Institution open 24 hours/7 days a week, all positions will be office centered.
This is a Correctional facility; you will come in contact with incarcerated persons.
There is also a Level I Minimum Support Facility. It is on 600 acres. KVSP received Level I's in June 2005 and Level IV's in July 2005.

Full-time (10 Month Employee): Wage is based upon education and experience from $43,925 - $53,225, plus benefits and up to an additional $10,000 in Prop 301 money. Minimum Qualifications:
Education, Training, and Experience:
A Master's Degree from an accredited college or university. Completion of a graduate program in one of the following: guidance and counseling, counseling, social work, or psychology.
At least two (2) years of verified full-time experience as a mentalhealth counselor or three (3) years of verified full-time teaching experience.
Experience working with children is preferred.
