Part-time Description
Dispatching of police, medical and fire services on a county-wide basis. Calls for services received from various police agencies and E911 system. Operate police radio system, national crime computer system, E911 computer system and other small business machines. Receive, secure and disseminate information to and from police officers, police agencies, citizens and other emergency public agencies. Performs other duties, as required. Including, but not limited to, miscellaneous Boone County Jail Duties. i.e. searches, change-outs etc.

Requirements

JOB SUMMARY
This is a non-management position within the Public Safety Communications Center of the Marion Police Department. A Communications Operator serves the community by answering emergency and routine calls via phone, radio, or other devices and gathers essential information from callers; enters the call information into the computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system and dispatches the appropriate first responders to the scene as needed. The operator provides dispatch and communication support services for police, fire, EMS, and can require the coordination of other related service agencies during joint events. Work is performed in accordance with federal and state laws as well as departmental regulations, policies, and routines. This position has 3 shifts: Day Shift - 6 am - 2 pm; Evening Shift - 2 pm - 10 pm; and Overnight Shift 10 pm - 6 am. Shifts are bid on every 6 months by seniority with all new hires working evening and overnight shifts, including weekends and holidays.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/WORK PERFORMED
* Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace or citizens encountered during work.
* Receive all 911 and routine line phone calls, as well as the police department administrative phone calls by operating a multi-line telephone console system including telecommunications device for the deaf (TDD) or hearing-impaired.
* Must always be ready to take a call and respond as necessary.
* Accurately interpret, condense, and prioritize information relevant to the call; select proper call type responses.
* Keep callers on the phone, if necessary, in order to provide responders with the most current information to handle the call safely and efficiently.
* Ask vital questions and provide pre-arrival instructions for emergency personnel.
* Transfer or relay calls, individuals or information to officers or other members of the department or make secondary party calls to others as needed or requested. (i.e.: gas, electric, water, etc.)
* Operate the department's multi-channel/multi-agency radio equipment; be clear in tone, enunciation and volume; be concise giving details in an accurate, brief and logical order over the radio.
* Monitor multiple radio channels and talk groups and understand their functions.
* Dispatch calls to correct law enforcement, fire or medical personnel via the radio equipment, monitoring all radio traffic, keeping units updated with accurate information.
* Rapidly and accurately type all call information or officer-initiated activity into the computer-aided dispatching (CAD) system; efficiently operate multiple computer programs, understand the system integration and stat-based requirements; quickly log, retrieve and/or disseminate information as needed or requested.
* Monitor the state computer system for attempt to locates or time-sensitive messages from other agencies; Utilize the state computer system to enter and modify information into local, state, and national computer database National Crime Information Center (NCIC).
* Greet and assist citizens walking into the public lobby; for information or requesting officer response.
* Continuously review policies and procedures and update communications center manuals as required.
* Perform administrative work and print paperwork as needed or requested by officer.
* Train employees or officers on specific tasks as needed.

The Security and Communications Dispatcher operates a complex communication system for Adventureland responds to emergency and administrative calls and dispatches public safety and public service personnel and equipment. This position is responsible for directing in-park communication calls, in-park radio traffic, and emergency communication coordination.

Adventureland Park - Security Dispatcher
Roles & Responsibilities:
General Communication:
Operates a radio console and paging system; receives and transmits radio messages; broadcasts pertinent information as required.
Receives and transmit park transmissions via Two-Way Radios
Operates a telephone console; receives and relays messages; directs requests for assistance for security, law enforcement, and EMS to the appropriate agency; prioritizes calls for service and dispatches in an appropriate order.
Maintains a complete log of telephone and radio calls received and transmitted via a computerized dispatching system.
Inputs data into the computerized dispatching system to produce information for mandated and management reports; enters information into the computer; performs tests of emergency communications equipment.
Retrieves online data and paper file information from a variety of sources and relays information to the appropriate destination.
Receives and directs messages, inquiries, and information requests from the public to the appropriate source.
Performs administrative duties as needed, using a variety of office equipment that includes PC, Windows software, email, faxes, word processing software, copiers, time clocks, paper shredders, and all other software or databases required for reporting or record maintenance.
Follow standard operating procedures for the park location, as well as Parques Reunidos/Palace Entertainment.
All other duties assigned by leadership.
Emergency Services:
Contact local law enforcement personnel when circumstances warrant.
Report and dispatch on security incidents and threats
Oversees and report on security surveillance
Maintains and review security records; periodically report on trends, anomalies, and concerns
Maintains accurate and professional communications with emergency responders during emergencies.
Ability to perform first aid and basic emergency via medical dispatch procedures
Assists with developing incident reports for emergencies.
Education and Experience:
High School diploma, GED, or equivalent; Equivalent work experience will also be considered
1+ year of previous experience as a dispatcher, highly desired
Language: Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English; Spanish or other bilingual language skills are a plus.
Requirements:
Must be at least 16 years of age to comply with Iowa Child Labor Laws
Ability to work flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Must have reliable transportation to and from your scheduled shift
Ability to address multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment
Ability to effectively and accurately communicate with external first responders and emergency personnel
Ability to operate a variety of electronic equipment, such as cameras, two-way radios, walkie-talkies, and/or personal computers
Must possess excellent observation, interviewing, listening, and note-taking skills

Must be willing to learn and comprehend state and local laws related to civil and criminal procedures
Must have the ability to always remain alert and vigilant
Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, SharePoint, and Outlook
Must possess effective interpersonal skills needed to tactfully deal with other people (both public and hosts) and handle tense situations in a calm and professional manner
Ability to read and comprehend fine print on documents and computerized screens
Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions
Must possess strong attention to detail needed for accurate data entry, report writing, and verbal communication
Physical Requirements:
Ability to remain sedentary for extended periods of time throughout the entirety of the shift
Frequent sedentary motion, while sitting and utilizing computer, cameras, or communication equipment
Ability to stand or walk long distances throughout the park, when needed
Ability to occasionally stoop, twist, kneel, bend, squat, or reach above shoulders
Ability to carry, push, pull, lift, and hold objects weighing 30 pounds or more
Ability to see details of objects that are more than a few feet away
Working Conditions:
This role will be predominantly based in an office setting with some exposure to all other indoor and outdoor park environments
