Dispatchers are responsible for evaluating all transport requests and deploying the most appropriate resource(s), answering the Communications Center multi-phone line system, responding to all referrals/requests and inputting call information into our computer aided dispatch (CAD) system. Customer Service Dispatchers report to the Dispatch Supervisor.

Accurately take incoming requests while simultaneously documenting information electronically.
Call confirmations for upcoming transports to ensure requests are still valid.
Private-pay call request payment collections.
Professionally navigate difficult interactions and direct conversations toward productive outcomes.
Operate a computer terminal and be proficient in word processing, e-mail, and other software programs.
Operate a multi-line phone system as well as radio communication equipment.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
Perform other duties as assigned by manager or leadership team.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
Prior EMS/EMT experience preferred.
Demonstrated background of successful customer service experience required.
High school diploma or equivalent.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
This is a non-sworn public safety class series that performs the full range of receiving and dispatching emergency calls for the Department of Public Safety. All activities must be performed within specified legal guidelines.
Public Safety Dispatcher II: This is the journey-level classification in the Public Safety Dispatcher series. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. DEFINITION

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Public Safety Dispatcher provides technical communications support and computer information processing for police and fire activities as well as animal control and public services functions. In addition to call taking and dispatching, incumbents perform varied record keeping, information retrieval, and similar work in support of public safety activities. Incumbents are expected to exercise independent judgment in the performance of their duties with minimum supervision.

General supervision is provided by the dispatch supervisor with direction provided by other supervisory or management staff.

Physical Demands: Incumbent must function efficiently in a confined space for extended periods with no breaks and no opportunity to leave the confines of the Communications Center. THEPOSITION
Under the supervision of a shift supervisor, the Public Safety Dispatcher processes emergency and non-emergency calls for service; dispatches police, fire, medical, and other emergency equipment, by telephone or radio, utilizing complex technical aids, such as Computer Aided Dispatch systems (CAD); and performs other related duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will possess a POST Basic Certificate, EMD Certificate, and knowledge in all disciplines of Police/Fire and EMS dispatching and one year as a Public Safety Dispatcher with a demonstrated background in the operation of modern Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems. Benefits
The Sacramento Communications Center dispatch employees receive an additional $300.00 recruitment and retention monthly pay differential. Part-time and intermittent employees shall receive a pro rata share of the monthly differential based on the total number of hours worked within the monthly pay period.

The Position
The San Bruno Police Department is recruiting for entry-level Public Safety Dispatchers. Public Safety Dispatchers are responsible for public safety dispatch and related records management activities. This position operates on a 24-hour, 365 days per year basis, and may be assigned to either a day, swing, or graveyard shift on a regular, rotational basis that includes nights, weekends, and holidays. Public Safety Dispatchers perform a wide range of duties involving radio, telephone, and computers, applying various procedures and codes. Dispatchers receive and transmit emergency and non-emergency telephone and radio traffic as well as process communication reports, records, and radio logs, while maintaining
a high level of confidentiality. Dispatchers may also support the Police Department by performing clerical tasks, training, assisting with fingerprinting, and being accountable for financial transactions. This position is integral in supporting the goals and objectives of the City and Police Department.
Examples of Duties
Essential Duties
Receives and transmits emergency
and non-emergency
telephone and radio traffic.
Maintains and processes a variety of communications reports, records and radio logs.
Operates a dispatch console, uses Computer Aided Dispatch (C.A.D.) System and other computer programs to process information and records.
Responsible for various Record Management System (RMS) entries, some of these include but are not limited to citations, warrants, subpoenas.
Responsible for accurate and timely entries into the California Law Enforcement Telecommunication System (CLETS), as well as, the National Crime Information Center (NCIC).
Maintains a high level of confidentiality.
Performs collateral duties including a variety of related clerical tasks:
records entry, assisting in fingerprinting and jail operations, which may include searching prisoners; and is accountable for handling cash, bond, and check transactions.
Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with all City departments, employees at all levels and other law enforcement agencies. They will also demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
Typical duties and responsibilities of a City of Vacaville Public Safety Dispatcher include:
* Receiving and responding to both routine and emergency calls
* Evaluating requests to determine priority level and type of response required
* Determining the location and nature of emergency and non-emergency calls for service

The San Bruno Police Department is recruiting for entry-level Public Safety Dispatchers. Public Safety Dispatchers are responsible for public safety dispatch and related records management activities. This position operates on a 24-hour, 365 days per year basis, and may be assigned to either a day, swing, or graveyard shift on a regular, rotational basis that includes nights, weekends, and holidays. Public Safety Dispatchers perform a wide range of duties involving radio, telephone, and computers, applying various procedures and codes.
