Research Technician I - Psychiatry - Behavioral Medicine and Neurosciences - Levin Be You. The Levin Lab conducts neurobehavioral research with rats and zebrafish to determine the short and long-term effects of drug and environmental chemical effects on sensorimotor, emotional, cognitive and social behavior. The technician with work with Dr. Levin, trainees, and collaborators with the exposure of the animal subjects to the drugs and environmental chemicals and assessment of the effects on behavior using observational ad computerized video tracking. The behavioral effects will be related to neural effects with collaborators analyzing brain tissue samples gathered by the Levin lab. The purpose of this research is to determine the neurobehavioral risks of environmental toxicant exposure, particularly during development. In addition, we conduct the impact of paternal chemical and drug exposure before conception on neurodevelopmental development in the offspring. Minimum Requirements: * Minimum education requirements: work requires an Associate's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other science related scientific field. * Minimum experience requirements: none required above education/training requirement Preferred Qualifications: * Experience with laboratory animal research. * Experience working with rats and zebrafish. * Expertise with rodent surgery and tissue gathering. * Expertise with laboratory preparation of dosing solutions * Expertise with Microsoft Word and Excel Be Bold. Position Description: * Conduct drug self-administration tests of lab animals (zebrafish and rats) and administer test compounds; collect and maintain data. * Conduct behavioral testing of lab animals with tasks including subcutaneous injections, attention tasks, radial arm maze, figure-8 maze, elevated plus maze, Novel Object Recognition, Novel Environment Suppressed feeding, Righting Reflex and Negative Geotaxis; collect and maintain data. * Determine and set up instruments, material and apparatus and operate lab equipment required for specific project. Clean and maintain equipment. Make test compounds required for a project's behavioral testing. * Perform various surgeries (jugular vein catheterization, osmotic pump implantation) Choose Duke.
