We are looking to hire an OB Surgical Technician. The Surgical Technician functions in the scrub role during intraoperative patient care, doing so as a delegated technical function under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse. The provision of care is consistent through adherence to standards and support of the philosophies of Genesis Medical Center.
*Schedule:*
* Part-time; 24 hour per week
* Shift: Days; 5:00am - 5:00pm; every other weekend rotation
* 12-hour shifts
*General Requirements:*
* Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology; completion of surgical tech apprenticeship or military program.
* Or graduate of an LPN program with Surgical experience; or equivalent experience to demonstrate competency.
* CST certification preferred but not required in Iowa. CST certification is required if working in Illinois. LPN license is required if you are a graduate of an LPN program.
* No prior experience is required.

Position Responsibilities:
In this position, you'll be responsible for providing direct care for patients and families under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Assists nursing personnel with patient care activities and help in maintaining a clean and safe environment. Greeting and escorting patients to Pre-Op Bays. Assisting with the clean-up of OR suites and the department before, between, and after procedures. Assisting in handling, cleaning, and caring for OR equipment and anesthesia machines. Assisting and coordinates the receiving, distribution, and storing of supplies and linen. Assisting with simple or complex procedures, i.e., shave preparation of surgical site, transfer of patients to OR table, positioning of patients before surgery, elevating and holding extremities during skin prep, and transport of patients to recovery area. Maintaining an orderly environment and clean areas as directed. Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations. ORA holds all of our staff members accountable for providing high-level care, maintaining patient confidentiality, and complying with all HIPAA rules and regulations. Requirements:
This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in the healthcare setting is preferred. Completion of a 120/150-hour CNA course is recommended. Prior customer service experience is preferred. Must have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, or it must be obtained within the first six months of hire date. Ability to lift up to 50lbs and assist in lifting patients up to 300lbs. Frequent squatting, bending, and kneeling. Occasional reaching, twisting, and crawling. Must be able to operate and handle many kinds of complex equipment. Standing and walking a minimum of 6 hours out of 8 hours. Displays excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication and computer skills. Candidates must possess the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively, as well as communicate and interact with patients and their families clearly and effectively.

**Responsibilities**
+ Obtain vital signs, height, weight and demographic data
+ Assist patients with personal and daily care, such as bathing, oral hygiene, shaving and hair care
+ Assist with urinary catheter removal, finger stick blood sugars, bladder scans, routine urine and stool specimen collection, ostomy care and emptying drainage receptacles/tubes
+ Remove peripheral IV's as directed by RN (may not remove any IV's located in antecubital fossa or higher)
+ Deliver meals and snacks, feed patients who are unable to feed themselves and document oral intake
+ Turn and position immobile patients safely while maintaining proper body alignment; participate in mobility program
+ Transport patients to designated areas, such as to and from various treatment centers
**Qualifications**
+ Current enrollment in an accredited nursing school (ADN or BSN program) - must provide proof of completion of the first year/fundamentals of nursing (or equivalent)
+ Knowledge of basic nursing techniques and procedures and aseptic practices
+ Requires the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to follow written and verbal instructions, and to maintain effective working relations with others including patients, families, physicians and other hospital associates.
+ BLS certification required upon hire
