Job Description - Emergency Medical Technician - Basic Responsibilities: 911 ONLY Emergency Medical Technicians-Basic (EMT-B) respond to emergency calls to provide efficient and immediate care to the critically ill and injured, and to transport the patient to a medical facility.
After receiving the call from the dispatcher, the EMT-B drives the ambulance to address or location given, using the most expeditious route, depending on traffic and weather conditions. The EMT-B must observe traffic ordinances and regulations concerning emergency vehicle operation.
The EMT-B:
♦ functions in uncommon situations;
♦ has a basic understanding of stress response and methods to ensure personal well-being;
♦ has an understanding of body substance isolation;
♦ understands basic medical-legal principles;
♦ functions within the scope of care as defined by state, regional and local regulatory agencies;
♦ complies with regulations on the handling of the deceased, notifies authorities and arranges for
protection of property and evidence at the scene.
Upon arrival at the scene of crash or illness, the EMT-B parks the ambulance in a safe location to avoid additional injury. Prior to initiating patient care, the EMT-B will also "size-up" the scene to determine: that the scene is safe; the mechanism of injury or nature of illness; the total number of patients; and to request additional help, if necessary. In the absence of law enforcement, the EMT-B creates a safe traffic environment, such as the placement of road flares, removal of debris and redirection of traffic for the protection of the injured and those assisting in the care of injured patients. The EMT-B determines the nature and extent of illness or injury and establishes priority for required emergency care. The EMT-B renders emergency medical and or trauma care, to adults, children and infants based on assessment findings. Duties include but are not limited to:

♦ lifting the stretcher (be able to lift and carry 125 pounds),
♦ placing it in the ambulance and seeing that the patient and stretcher are secured
♦ continuing emergency medical care while enroute to the medical facility.
The EMT-B uses the knowledge of the condition of the patient and the extent of injuries and the relative locations and staffing of emergency hospital facilities to determine the most appropriate facility to which the patient will be transported, unless otherwise directed by medical direction. The EMT-B reports directly to the emergency department or communications center the nature and extent of injuries, the number being transported and the destination to assure prompt medical care on arrival. The EMT-B identifies assessment findings, which may require communications with medical control, for advice and for notification that special professional services and assistance be immediately available upon arrival at the medical facility.
The EMT-B:
♦ constantly assesses the patient enroute to the emergency facility, administers additional care as
indicated or directed by medical control,
♦ assists in lifting and carrying the patient out of the ambulance and into the receiving medical
facility
♦ reports verbally and in writing, their observation and emergency medical care of the patient at the
emergency scene and in transit, to the receiving medical facility staff for purposes of records and
diagnostics
♦ upon request provides assistance to the receiving medical facility staff.
After each call, the EMT-B:
♦ restocks and replaces used linens, blankets and other supplies,
♦ cleans all equipment following appropriate disinfecting procedures,
♦ makes careful check of all equipment so that the ambulance is ready for the next run
♦ maintains ambulance in efficient operating condition
♦ ensures that the ambulance is clean and washed and kept in a neat orderly condition
♦ in accordance with local, state or federal regulations, decontaminates the interior of the vehicle after
transport of patient with contagious infection or hazardous materials exposure.

♦ determines that vehicle is in proper mechanical condition by checking items required by service

Position Summary
The Emergency Medical Services employee provides medical care to ill or injured Vassar College students, staff and faculty in a college health setting, as well as renders basic first aid to ill or injured campus visitors in collaboration with Vassar College Health Service. Responsibilities
Assessment and treatment of routine, urgent and emergent medical and mental health care concerns as per NYS EMT protocol and Vassar College policies and under the guidance of a Vassar College Health Service provider.
Perform CLIA waived testing including but not limited to: flu, strep, rapid COVID, and urine dips under the clinical direction and training of a Vassar College Health Service provider.

Providing both emergency and non-emergency transport of patients. Empress EMT'S & Paramedics will collaborate with their direct supervisors, Municipal and County Fire, Police departments as well as other medical staff, patients and family members to provide the highest level of patient care and customer service. At the direction of the Operations Department, the EMT will perform or assist with a wide variety of patient care activities in both the pre-hospital and hospital setting. The EMT is expected to provide supportive and definitive care to the patient of groups or group of patients. The EMT will provide care in the emergency setting as well as care to the patients during inter-facility transportation.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care within the scope of established treatment protocols and the current standard of care.
Provides accurate and pertinent written documentation of all patient care and EMS responses.
Completes ALL required Empress and NYS paperwork.
Maintains all patient care equipment, vehicles, supplies, daily logs and patient care record as directed by the company.
Operates Empress Vehicles and equipment as required, according to company policy.
Maintains a safe and orderly work environment and promotes safe work practices for all employees.
Reports to work on time and understands that due to the nature of EMS, the EMT's assigned shift may exceed the assigned time for the end of the shift. Mandatory overtime may be assigned.
Work schedules encompass a variety of shifts. The EMT may be required, as part of his/her normal duties, to work ANY of the shifts available.
Follows all Empress Policies and Procedures.
Attends mandatory continuing medical education, updates and staff meetings as required by Empress.
Complies with the established guidelines for uniform dress and standard equipment regulations.
Assist in the provision of public information and educational programs designed to promote EMTS and the services offered by Empress, to the community and allied EMS agencies.
Minimum Qualifications:
Current New York State Certification (EMT-B) and current CPR Certification.
A valid Driver's License- Driving record must meet company requirements.
Satisfactorily completes all aspects of the pre-employment process administered by and /or for Empress Ambulance Service, LLC. inclusive of drug screening/background check and physical agility test (CPAT).
High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Must be at least 19 years of age.
Work Environment:
Works outdoors and indoors with occasional exposure to hazardous conditions and to blood/body fluids, requires respirator use, fumes/odors, extended day, and temperature changes. Frequently works with others, face-to-face contact with others with exposure to noise, mechanical equipment, and electrical equipment. Performs shift work and performs duties frequently in a mobile environment and in confined areas.
Physical Requirements:
The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk. The employee is required to sit; climb or balance; step, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
