Essential Functions: * Under the general supervision of the Department Director, performs a wide variety of polysomnographic studies in the laboratory. * Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills with patients, patient families, laboratory staff, physicians, and other members of the hospital staff. * Explains the test procedure to the patient. * Administers patient questionnaire to obtain an accurate and complete history. * Applies electrodes appropriately with acceptable impedance levels. * Applies appropriate transducers to monitor respiratory effort, airflow, and oxygen saturation. * Calibrates, evaluates, and adjusts the instrumentation. * Monitors the patient throughout the night, observing cardiac rhythm and respiration of abnormalities. * Contacts a staff physician when indicated. * Attends the personal needs of the patient throughout the night. * Administers oxygen and nasal continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) and BIPAP as directed by the staff physician. * Removes electrodes and cleans the patient as needed.
