Key Responsibilities: • Operate necessary equipment to bale and load waste or other material into trailers. • Perform inspection and maintenance checks of equipment daily. • Grease/lubricate equipment, check and add fluids to equipment daily. • Operator will steer, guide and or drive the above listed equipment at the assigned site, if the equipment is used at the particular site(s) using steering wheel, shifters, levers, buttons and pedals. • Operator will substitute for another operator if someone is absent from the work crew or as needed/required. • Operator will clean trash from tracks of heavy equipment by pulling and or cutting material away from tracks and gear mechanisms at least once daily or more if needed. • Operator will use a two-way radio to communicate with co-workers in the field and or office regarding work activities, Requirements: and priorities for the work day. • Conform in all respects with applicable federal, state/provincial and local laws, regulations, ordinances and other orders and to all company policies, procedures and directives from supervisors. • Maintain appearance of the grounds and facility. • Attend safety and branch meetings. • Perform other job-related duties as assigned. Job Description The Solid Waste Equipment Operator operates, monitors and maintains a variety of equipment, buildings, and systems which support the operation of the landfill. Essential Job Functions: Performs the daily operation of the Solid Waste Facility, including the operation of landfill gas and leachate collection systems, operation of light and heavy equipment. Operates surveying equipment to maintain grades and elevations. Documents and reports inspection, cleaning and maintenance of equipment. Record keeping for all facility operations, including regulatory compliance data, maintenance logs, inspection forms, mileage/hour records, etc. Operational duties including housekeeping, modifications and maintenance of the inactive areas of the landfill. Performs operation control test and inspects materials entering the Solid Waste Facility. Performs weighmaster duties at truck scale. Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have a High School diploma or GED. A valid Ohio Driver's license with a safe driving record and a drug screening are required. One (1) year experience operating and maintaining light and heavy equipment or equivalent is preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Applicants should have experience with equipment operations, effective written and verbal communication skills, ability to have effective working relationships with fellow coworkers, public officials and the general public. Proficient experience with the use of computer hardware, software and office equipment is preferred. HEAVY CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT OPERATOR Heavy Construction Equipment Operator I Facilities Services Salary Range: $3,736 - $$5,232/Monthly (Budgeted Hiring Salary Range $4,044- $4,833/Monthly) Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday - Friday, 300 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; non-exempt classification. Essential Functions: Heavy Construction Equipment Operators operate very heavy trucks, tractor-trucks and heavy construction equipment which can be operated only by a highly skilled operator. Heavy equipment include large track-type tractors (Cat D-6 or larger), large-earth-moving equipment, motor graders, cranes, heisters, large loaders (usually over 1 ½ cubic yard capacity), forklifts (including 2 ½ ton capacity), trenching machines (over 30" depth), large backhoes, large bulldozers, asphalt paving machines, large rollers (eight ton and over) used for improvement of campus roads, parking lots, building site preparation, etc., and operate large tow trucks, tractor semi-trailer combinations such as those used for hauling extremely heavy machinery, equipment, and other materials. Required Qualifications & Experience: Must possess a valid California Driver's license; be licensed appropriately for each vehicle operated and may be required by the California Vehicle Code to carry appropriate certification while driving. JOB CONTEXT: The Heavy Equipment Operator is a full-time, permanent position in the Street Department. The immediate supervisor for this position is the Street Department Supervisor. The person in this position is supervised daily. The person in this position works regular hours and works overtime or at night only in the event of an emergency or to assist with snowfall removal. There is no shift work associated with this position. The person in this position shares on call duties with other Street Department employees. 10% of the work done in this position is done indoors; 90% is done outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
