Heavy EquipmentOperators are responsible for safely operating various heavy equipment that perform the spreading, compaction, and/or loading of commercial and residential Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) or recyclable materials.
Responsibilities of Position:
* Perform efficient safe operation of all heavy equipment including, but not limited to, bulldozers, graders, excavators, backhoes, front end loaders, wheel loaders, off road dump trucks, and other equipment as required
* Conduct pre-trip/post-trip inspections on heavy equipment and complete necessary documentation
* Perform routine maintenance on equipment, (i.e., lubricating, fueling, and cleaning equipment)
* Operate various equipment for general site preparation, landscaping, snow removal, and/or related assignments
* Continuously monitor the equipment to ensure proper operation and minimal down time, while also remaining aware of surroundings
* Interact with internal and external customers
* Clean waste from equipment body, cab, and wheels throughout the day
* Performing on-site Roll Off work to switch trash compactors as needed based on locations
* Operating the yard tractor on site to move and stage trailers as needed based on locations
* *Specific to Boyd County - Hazardous waste management to safely move waste materials in a manner that does not damage the tanks/containers they are held in or endanger personnel or equipment
* Perform other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibility:
* This position will not manage employees.
Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:
* Must be able to show proficiency on heavy equipment
* Must be able to successfully complete training on other landfill equipment, as necessary

Experience & Knowledge Needed for Position:
* Minimum of three years experience operating heavy equipment such as an excavator, backhoe, dozer, and off-road truck or similar experience preferred
* Must pass a written and operational test to be certified to operate each piece of heavy equipment
* *Specific to Boyd County - Must successfully complete hazardous waste management training, as provided in the Personnel Training Plan for Hazardous Waste Job Duties, within six months of employment or assignment to such job duties, along with an annual review of the initial training
Physical Requirements in a Regular Workday:

Key Responsibilities:
• Operate necessary equipment to bale and load waste or other material into trailers.
• Perform inspection and maintenance checks of equipment daily.
• Grease/lubricate equipment, check and add fluids to equipment daily.
• Operator will steer, guide and or drive the above listed equipment at the assigned site, if the equipment is used at the particular site(s) using steering wheel, shifters, levers, buttons and pedals.
• Operator will substitute for another operator if someone is absent from the work crew or as needed/required.
• Operator will clean trash from tracks of heavy equipment by pulling and or cutting material away from tracks and gear mechanisms at least once daily or more if needed.
• Operator will use a two-way radio to communicate with co-workers in the field and or office regarding work activities, Requirements: and priorities for the work day.
• Conform in all respects with applicable federal, state/provincial and local laws, regulations, ordinances and other orders and to all company policies, procedures and directives from supervisors.
• Maintain appearance of the grounds and facility.
• Attend safety and branch meetings.

Requirements:
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) desired, but not required.
• Completion of forklift certification.
• Ability to obtain Transfer Station/Landfill Operations Certification if needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Demonstrate ability to follow instructions and work under little supervision.
• Apply commonsense understanding to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in a standardized setting.
• Ability to perform the four basic functions of math and to be able to read and understand the meaning of equipment gauges.
• Must have the ability to read, speak, understand and write the English language.
• Must be able to frequently lift/push/pull up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds.
Physical/Mental Demands:
• Ability to stand, sit, walk, use hands and fingers, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, climb, balance, taste, and smell.
• Visual Requirements: include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Job Description
The Solid Waste EquipmentOperatoroperates, monitors and maintains a variety of equipment, buildings, and systems which support the operation of the landfill.
Essential Job Functions:
Performs the daily operation of the Solid Waste Facility, including the operation of landfill gas and leachate collection systems, operation of light and heavy equipment. Operates surveying equipment to maintain grades and elevations.
Documents and reports inspection, cleaning and maintenance of equipment.
Record keeping for all facility operations, including regulatory compliance data, maintenance logs, inspection forms, mileage/hour records, etc.
Operational duties including housekeeping, modifications and maintenance of the inactive areas of the landfill.
Performs operation control test and inspects materials entering the Solid Waste Facility. Performs weighmaster duties at truck scale.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must have a High School diploma or GED. A valid Ohio Driver's license with a safe driving record and a drug screening are required. One (1) year experience operating and maintaining light and heavy equipment or equivalent is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Applicants should have experience with equipmentoperations, effective written and verbal communication skills, ability to have effective working relationships with fellow coworkers, public officials and the general public. Proficient experience with the use of computer hardware, software and office equipment is preferred. This position will include physical labor, including working outdoors in all types of weather conditions. This position may require emergency call out response at all hours of the day and night, including weekends and holidays.
Job Type: Full Time

Starting: $20.40 - $27.71/hr.
