Job offers are determined based on a candidate's years of relevant experience, level of education and internal equity. Job Summary Performs venipuncture and capillary specimen collection on patients. Depending on work location, performs in-house phlebotomy, in house processing, phlebotomy in a physician office setting, or registration and phlebotomy in a patient service center. Demonstrate effective communication among laboratory colleagues, clients, physicians, medical office staff and patients. Primary Duties * Performs venipuncture and capillary puncture blood sample collections on patients of all age groups, and accurately identifies and labels all specimens following established laboratory protocol. * Uses the laboratory information system or other reference laboratory's web-based applications to independently solve complex issues in a sensitive, caring, and timely manner. * Processes all specimens in accordance with laboratory protocol including the proper handling, centrifugation, storage, packaging, and transport. * Responsible for collecting all insurance/financial information necessary for proper billing. Demonstrates knowledge of requirements for collecting ABN's and filling out MSPQ information. * Accurately enters orders and patient demographic information in the laboratory information system. * Answer and navigate calls with accuracy, efficiency, and courtesy using best customer service tactics and practices. * Performs other duties as assigned. License, Certification, Education or Experience: REQUIRED for the position: * High School graduate or equivalent or applicable coursework to be applied to obtain required WA State Medical Assistant - Phlebotomy (MA-P) - Certification. * Certification from an approved phlebotomy-training program with successful completion of a required internship preferred, or relevant work experience. * Medical terminology * State of Washington Medical Assistant - Phlebotomist (MA-P) or equivalent. * Have and maintain current Healthcare Provider CPR certification. DESIRED for the position: * 3 years of experience working in a clinical laboratory customer service or specimen processing role * Previous training and competence in dealing with the unique needs in the range of customer service situations with clinicians and their office staff * Working knowledge of the various government regulations specifically Medicare and the Washington state medical Test Site regulations.     JOB SUMMARY Laboratory Assistants/Phlebotomists are non-professional personnel with training in areas of the clinical laboratory useful to the overall efficiency and smooth operation of the laboratory. These areas include: phlebotomy, preparation of send out tests, answering the telephone, and assisting in the chemistry, hematology, and microbiology areas of the laboratory. The purpose of the job description is to provide information on how this useful assistance can be given. In order to qualify for this position, one must be able to work independently all the requirements as described for a Laboratory Assistant. This person should be versatile in all aspect of the laboratory as well as a team player to assist in not only performing, but coordinating the duties and responsibilities of the Laboratory Assistant in order to relieve the Clinical Laboratory Scientist the responsibilities of the phlebotomy and processing area, which includes the send out and microbiology set-ups. This person must have an extensive computer and LIS capability to manage and troubleshoot any problems in the processing area as well as the billing aspect. This person needs to be able to demonstrate proficiency in assisting and gaining the confidence of the Clinical Laboratory Scientist to perform the designated automated instruments. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING High school education or its equivalent experience (An AA or Bachelor's degree is preferred.) Two years of experience as a phlebotomist. Certified for venipuncture and skin puncture CPT. Be able to communicate well in English both in writing and verbally. Minimum of four years of experience in a clinical laboratory with at least two years of experience as a Laboratory Technician a lead laboratory assistant, and or a Lab Assistant Supervisor, or show equivalent experience. Have at least two years of LIS experience and computer knowledge, or show proficiency. Have good organizational skills. Have some experience with the operation of any automated chemistry, hematology, or microbiology experience Work well under supervision and in times of stress. BCLS Card (AHA) within 30 days of hire and maintain.
