ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs comprehensive oral evaluations using radiographs, periodontal charting, and impressions.
Documents and charts extra oral and intraoral hard and soft tissue findings.
Performs comprehensive care on patients of all ages; performs comprehensive care on medically complex and pregnant patients.
Formulates, discusses, and agrees upon treatment plan options with patients.
Extracts teeth, performs root canals, removes caries from teeth, prepares teeth for fillings and inserts material such as amalgam and composite.
Restores teeth affected by caries, through restorations, crowns, and fixed partial dentures, to carryout agreed upon treatment plans.
Diagnoses and treats pathological conditions, prescribes medication for treatment of diseases of a dental nature, administers local anesthetic and takes dental radiographs.
Fabricates appliances such as dentures, partials, minor orthodontic appliances, fixed partial dentures, crowns, and inlays.
Provides patient education and oral health instruction.
Completes documentation in a timely manner, to ensure records are accurate and up to date.
Trains staff on appropriate dental applications, when necessary, to ensure a well-educated staff.
Sees emergency patients, and performs emergency procedures, in order to reduce or eliminate immediate pain.
Performs in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and protocols.
Acts as a clinical leader and resource, promotes a positive work environment, and supports change within the department and organization.
Collaborates with other health care providers to ensure continuity of care.
Proctors' dental student externs in providing comprehensive dental care.
Regular attendance of contracted hours is required to carry out the essential functions of this role.
Reviews and meets ongoing competency requirements of the role to maintain the skills, knowledge and abilities to perform, within scope, role specific functions.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.
Minimum Required: Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD).

Interact with other disciplines within the BNHC acting as a resource of information for other medical providers and social workers. Provides education, screening and preventive services to BNHC dental patients of all ages, including vulnerable populations such as HIV-infected patients, homeless patients, diabetics and children. Conducts quarterly peer reviews and ensures compliance.
Interacts with other disciplines within BNHC providing a resource for other medical providers and social workers.
Maintains patient information within HIPAA.
Maintains a professional relationship and positive attitude with co-workers, patients, and external professional contacts.
Demonstrates ability to prioritize demands, work with distractions, adapt to change, exercise efficient time management, and work independently.
Maintains appropriate chain of command.
Attending staff meetings is required.
Communicate effectively with supervisor, staff, and management.
Participate in development of short range and long-range strategic planning of dental services and quality measures.
STANDARDS OF CARE:
Patient medical history to be reviewed at every visit.
Patient radiographs to be reviewed and assessed to clarity.
A complete diagnosis should be created and established.
A comprehensive treatment plan should be created.
A coherent and comprehensive strategy to restore the patient to good oral health should be created.
Provider will create excellent and accurate progress notes.
Pain scale will be completed every visit.
The consent forms will be completed and reviewed prior to treatment.
Time outs will be performed prior to procedures.
Treatment provided must be billed accurately and in timely in accordance with BNHC policies and procedures for closing encounters.
These duties should be performed within the direction of the Massachusetts License Board and ADA. It is the responsibility of the dentist to ensure they are aware of standards of care as needed by the Massachusetts dental board.
PRODUCTIVITY:
Dentists are expected to meet the department's yearly budgeted visits, determined at the beginning of the fiscal year.
Qualifications
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Requires a doctorate in dental medicine or surgery with a license to practice in Massachusetts.
TRAINING:
One year of experience as a dental resident or practicing dentist.
INDEPENDENT ACTION:
Duties as a general dentist require the ability to perform according to accepted principles independent of supervision.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Shares responsibility for supervision of dental students training at the BNHC site as per Clinical Supervisor instructions.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
