JOB DESCRIPTION
The Oral Surgeon provides surgical treatment for patients requiring specialty orofacial procedures.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Performs evaluations and consults with patients to determine surgical oral health needs.
2. Collaborates with general dentists or other specialists to develop treatment plans
3. Documents and charts within patient medical records, maintaining notes related to appointments,
testing, treatment, and test results.
4. Performs surgical care on patients of all ages, including medically complex patients.
5. Formulates, discusses, and agrees upon treatment plan options with patients.
6. Administers general and local anesthetics when necessary
7. Performs surgical procedures including extractions, implant placement, biopsies, and removal of
tumors and/or growths of the oral and facial regions
8. Diagnoses and treats pathological conditions, prescribes medication for treatment of diseases of a
dental nature, and takes dental radiographs.
9. Treats infections of oral cavity, jaw, face, and salivary glands.
10. Provides patient education and oral health instruction.
11. Completes documentation in a timely manner to ensure records are accurate and up to date.
12. Trains staff on appropriate dental applications, when necessary, to ensure a well-educated staff.
13. Sees emergency patients, and performs emergency procedures, in order to reduce or eliminate
immediate pain.
14. Performs in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and protocols.
15. Acts as a clinical leader and resource, promotes a positive work environment, and supports change
within the department and organization.
16. Performs conscious sedation.
17. Collaborates with other health care providers to ensure continuity of care.
18. Proctors dental student externs in providing oral surgery care
19. Regular attendance of contracted hours is required to carry out the essential functions of this role.
20. Reviews and meets ongoing competency requirements of the role to maintain the skills, knowledge
and abilities to perform, within scope, role specific functions.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational
qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher
Education and Accreditation.
Minimum Required: DDS (Doctor of Dental Surgery) and/or DMD (Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry
or Doctor of Dental Medicine)
EXPERIENCE
Minimum Required: Minimum two years' experience as physician
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES
The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses
with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the
position.

Physician will provide high quality, patient-centered, comprehensive primary care services by rounding on patients residing in SNFs;
Physician is responsible for diagnosing and treating patients with acute illness, such as bacterial and viral infections, as well as chronic diseases and conditions, such as hypertension, heart disease, or diabetes
Physician must be able to supervise collaborating nurse practitioners and physicians assistants
Compensation
Compensation ranges approximately from $1,100 - $1,200 per day (PRN, Part-Time)

The Geriatrician functions as the attending physician for geriatric (and other) patients within one or more clinical venues of Hebrew Rehabilitation Center (HRC). Works closely with other members of the clinical care team including specialty consultants, nurse practitioners, therapists, nursing staff and other care providers. This position may also involve teaching responsibilities in connection with the Harvard Medical School Fellowship in Geriatric Medicine, for which HRC is a primary clinical teaching site.

Position Responsibilities:
Perform medical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses and treatment to patients in long term chronic care and post-acute care / skilled nursing facility settings.
Order diagnostic tests, pharmaceuticals, other medications, treatment regimens and interventions as appropriate to assessed medical conditions. Knowledge of relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aids and ability to prescribe dosages and instruct patients in correct usage.
Refers patients to specialists and to relevant patient care components as appropriate
Directs and coordinates the patient care activities of clinical team members and support staff as required
Coordinates with members of post-acute multidisciplinary team to help meet each patient's individual needs
Participate in overnight, weekend and holiday call as appropriate for area of practice
Documents each patient encounter in a timely manner (typically the same day) using the appropriate electronic medical record system
Signs/completes documentation in a timely manner to allow for submission of charges by off-site billing company
Follows established department policies, procedures and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards and quality measures
Successfully meets productivity benchmarks as established by Department of Medicine Administration
Participates in specified health promotion, education and/or preventative programs throughout HRC as appropriate
Trains and supervises medical students, residents and fellows engaged in specialty activities and procedures, as appropriate
Participate in Medical staff quality improvement and review activities
Participates in weekly Medical Staff Meetings
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Education: Awarded degree of MD or DO with ABIM recognized internal medicine or family practice residency (3 years minimum). Successful completion of ACGME accredited geriatric medicine fellowship program preferred
License: Valid and unrestricted Massachusetts Medical License.
Certification:
American Board Certification in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine currently valid or renewed (if needed) prior to expiration.
ABIM added certification in geriatric medicine preferred.
Federal DEA Certification.
CPR, BLS, ACLS as indicated by specific practice location.
Experience:
Experience, gained in training and/or in practice, caring for seniors in long term care and / or Skilled Nursing Facility, community or home settings.
Experience delivering effective medical care within an inpatient environment
Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards
Knowledge of community medical diagnostic and patient care services in area of medical expertise
Experience working both independently and in a team environment
Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of medical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment in area of expertise
