Opportunity Summary The Instrumentation, Controls, & Electrical (IC&E) / O&M Technician is responsible for monitoring the status of all plant systems on a continuous basis. Responds to alarms by taking appropriate corrective actions and executes plant shutdown and start-up procedures as required. Ensures that the plant meets its generating requirements while operating in a safe and efficient manner. This role also involves troubleshooting, calibrating, and repairing instrumentation, DCS, and PLC systems, supporting planned outages, emergency repairs, and routine maintenance tasks under supervisory guidance. Additionally, the technician will participate in plant operations, and assist with administrative duties to ensure the smooth and safe operation of the facility. Your scope of responsibility as IC&E / O&M Technician includes the following primary functions: Perform instrumentation and control (I&C) activities to support planned outages, emergency repairs, and other maintenance tasks to ensure plant systems operate efficiently, reliably, and safely. Troubleshoot, calibrate, and repair power plant instrumentation, Distributed Control Systems (DCS), and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC). Maintain Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS) equipment in accordance with regulatory requirements. Conduct routine water chemistry analysis and operate Continuous Emissions Monitoring (CEM) equipment. Follow established preventive and predictive maintenance plans, including testing and operating control equipment and systems. Operate major auxiliary equipment, including air compressors, boiler feedwater and condensate systems, water treatment systems, and locally controlled electrical and mechanical equipment. Execute operational orders from the Control Room Operator (CRO) for starting, securing, or preparing equipment for service in accordance with operating instructions and procedures. Assist the CRO with start-up, shutdown, and normal operations of power plant systems. Perform inspections, make minor repairs, and adjust equipment to maintain proper operating conditions. Maintain plant DC emergency battery backup systems. Collect and log plant operating data. Report any abnormal or irregular conditions that develop during operations and take corrective action within the scope of operating instructions. Participate in root cause analysis of abnormal conditions, alarms, and equipment trips. Ensure all equipment repairs or modifications comply with manufacturer guidelines. Thoroughly understand and follow all plant safety policies and procedures. Adhere to Environmental, NERC, and other regulatory compliance codes and regulations. Maintain accurate records of plant maintenance work using the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Support special projects and tasks as assigned by the Plant Manager. Power plant environment that may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials, with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise. Work may include high heat near equipment and varying outdoor weather conditions. Some duties may require the use of protective equipment, which can include hard hats, safety glasses, and eye protection, air masks/respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame-resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, high-voltage protective gear, and fall protection. Fit testing for respirators may be required. Strict smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility. Fitness for Duty All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening. Work Schedule The IC&E / O&M Technician works a standard Monday to Friday day shift schedule, ensuring consistent plant operation and support during regular business hours. This position will also occasionally necessitate extended working hours and flexible shifts as needed, including weekends and holidays, in response to schedules, workload demands, and plant conditions. Periodic callouts or “On call” status will also be required. Some travel may be required as needed in support of the Beaver Falls Generation Facility. Compensation This position offers a base pay rate ranging from $44.29 to $50.21 per hour, along with an annual performance bonus. Core Qualifications and Skills We are seeking a qualified Instrumentation, Controls, and Electrical (IC&E) Technician with hands-on experience in power generation operations and maintenance. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong technical aptitude, a commitment to safety, and a track record of contributing effectively within a team environment to support reliable plant performance. An Associate degree in Plant Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Process Technology, or a related field is preferred. Alternatively, equivalent technical training in industrial maintenance or instrumentation and control is beneficial, though not required. Relevant industry or military experience may be considered in lieu of education on a year-for-year basis. Prior experience in power plant operations within an active generating facility, including operating and maintaining plant systems such as HRSGs, turbines, and auxiliary equipment, and the ability to respond effectively to emergency operations and system dispatch orders, is required. High-level competency in troubleshooting, calibrating, and repairing power plant instrumentation-including pressure and temperature transmitters, thermocouples, pressure and temperature switches, proximity probes, vibration sensors, I/P controllers, flow elements and transmitters, electrical relays, gas analyzers, and speed sensors-is required. Extensive experience in troubleshooting and repairing plant control systems is essential. Knowledge of lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and experience maintaining detailed operational records, including Operating Logs, is essential. Experience with piping and instrument schematics and process controls is desirable. Strong leadership and motivational skills are required. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. The ability to work well with others, be self-directed, and apply creative solutions to unique problems is desirable. Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver's license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times. The Automation Controls Engineer also collaborates with Operations personnel seeking ways to optimize plant operations.
