Ohio Wesleyan University (************* a selective, private, undergraduate liberal arts, residential institution founded in 1842 and located just 20 miles north of Columbus, is seeking candidates for the position of GMT HVAC Technician. This is a full-time position. This position reports directly to the Mechanical Trades Supervisor and is responsible for the day-to-day mechanical maintenance, repairs, improvements, and/or alterations required at the University, as well as to assist the Mechanical Trades Supervisor with the administration of the Energy Management Systems.
Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
Supports the efficient operation, maintenance, and testing of the University heating plant, as well as the following systems: steam distribution, pneumatic, hydronic, HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, and energy management.
Aid in the implementation of the preventative/corrective maintenance program.
Assist in maintaining supply/inventory levels of shop requirements.
Reports work rules and safety violations to the supervisor.
Contributes to other trades and area within facilities as needed and directed by supervisor or other leadership within OWU.
Helps to coordinate and supervise outside contractors/vendors who provide contractual support for the mechanical trades department functions, such as: chiller maintenance, boiler maintenance and inspection, A/C maintenance, building sprinkler inspections, boiler water treatment, PM programs, and energy management.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Mechanical Trades Supervisor.
Requirements/Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Five (5) year's experience in a related field such as stationary engineer, HVAC, plumbing, or refrigeration.
Broad-based background and knowledge of all mechanical trades with an emphasis on HVACR and building automation systems.
EPA refrigeration certification.
Skill in communicating effectively.
Skill in record keeping.
Knowledge and experience of: electrical control systems, motors and motor control, basic wiring methods, soldering/brazing techniques, and commercial kitchen appliances.
Knowledge of National, State, and Local mechanical installation, operation, and safety codes.
Skill in using MS “Word” and “Excel” software.
Prior BAS experience with Delta, Ecostructure, and or Tridium is desired
The individual must also:
Possess a valid Ohio driver's license and ability to pass OWU background check.
Be able to lift weights common to trade.
Be able to work at heights common to trade.
Be on an emergency call-in rotation schedule.
Must be able to be contacted 24/7 during assigned on call schedule.

Replace defective devices/materials and check refrigerant levels in HVAC/R systems to ensure proper operations of units. Service and maintain high temperature and high pressure heating systems, parts and controls according to prescribed specifications. Assemble and disassemble HVAC/R systems and replace or repair defective parts. Inspect and test HVAC/R systems and components to identify problems and to assure system is set to operate at prescribed technical specifications. Check and adjust and vacuum gauges and controls to ensure efficient operations. Check joints and connections for gas leaks using various and techniques. Check regulators for all HVAC/R systems and units to assure they are adjusted correctly for proper operation and efficiency.
* 5-30% Perform, oversee and inspect installation of HVAC equipment and systems. Install HVAC/R systems (units ranging in size from one-half tone to seven hundred tons plus cooling capacity) in accordance with manufacturer's specifications. JOB SUMMARY:

Technical Skills

* Estimate, order, pick up, deliver, and install materials and supplies needed to maintain equipment in good working condition.

Under general supervision perform semi-skilled installation. Perform repair and preventative maintenance on air conditioning, refrigeration and heating equipment. Plan, inspect, record and monitor HVAC concerns. Research concerns and order repair parts and supplies.
Essential Functions:
10-50% Clean ducts, vents, registers, air chambers and filter screens of furnaces and air handling units. Remove dust clogged air filters and replace with clean filters. Clean filter screens using solvent. Remove dust, dirt and grime from air chamber, ducts and coils (indoor and outdoor) using techniques such as wire or fiber brushing and chemical washing.
10-50% Assist HVAC Technicians in the installation and maintenance of HVAC systems. Assist in assembling, disassembling and reassembling all types of HVAC/R systems (e.g. heating units, air conditioners, air compressors, air handlers, water circulating pumps, refrigeration units, etc.) and their components (e.g. evaporator unit) using appropriate tools.
