Job Summary
Responsible for the optimum planning and treatment of the radiation therapy patient with ionizing radiation in accordance with the written directive of the Radiation Oncologist, and under the direct supervision of the Assistant Technical Director.
Essential Functions
Treats patients with ionizing radiation in adherence to all regulatory guidelines.
Monitors all equipment parameters, documents equipment malfunctions and understands all emergency and safety procedures of all equipment.
Maintains accurate medical records and treatment schedules.
Assists with the clinical instruction of Radiation Therapy Students.
Inputs treatment and simulation charges information into Varis.
Documents patient treatment chart.
Understands emergency and fault procedures for linear accelerators and simulators.
Recognizes and reports patient concerns and physical problems to appropriate personnel.
Communicates instructions and procedures to patients and their families.
Maintains organization and cleanliness in the clinic.
Physical Requirements
This position requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling. Must be able to lift and support 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment and supplies. Must speak and understand English. Intact sense of sight, hearing, smell and touch. Finger dexterity. Critical thinking and ability to concentrate. Must be able to respond quickly and make decisions to changes on the unit.
Education, Experience and Certifications
Graduate of an AMA approved school of Therapeutic Radiology or international equivalent. ARRT registered or registry eligible, must pass registry in the first 90 days of employment. BLS for Healthcare Provider from AHA required.

Duke University Health System seeks to hire a CTTechnologist that is experienced with independent work platforms and analyzing post-scan 3D imaging who will embrace our mission of
Advancing Health Together.
The Duke Multi-Dimensional Imaging Lab offers post-processing services for any Computed Tomography (CT) or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) angiographic study scanned at our institution. We will also provide this service for any non-angiographic CT or MRI study with a valid order by an MD. Post-processing may include multi-planar reformations, maximum intensity projections, volume rendering, and quantitative analysis. Longitudinal reports will be provided on request to demonstrate changes in anatomical or pathological conditions over time. We also offer access to 3D tools for referring physicians, so they may interact with the exam data in real time. We are located in the Hock Plaza Building, near Duke Medical Center. Parking is available behind the building with advanced reservations.
What you will do:
Operate computer software for production of 3D images and multiplanar reconstructions from CT and MRI datasets for optimal visualization of patient's anatomic structures and pathology, using established 3D prost-processing protocols.
Ensure that images requiring post processing or manipulation are networked to appropriate workstations, and processed images are networked to PACS and other viewing or archival systems in a timely manner.
Perform a variety of advanced processing analysis of dicom data to include 3D and 4D reformations.
Quantitative analysis and volume measurements of radiologic dicom image datasets and 3D printing.
Manipulate digital medical images on advanced post processing workstations in multiple planes and dimensions for clinical visualization and quantitative analysis of diagnostic and interventional studies.
Manage transfer of all image data to and from the Multi-D Lab workstations in an accurate and timely manner, and use the available radiology information systems to acquire relevant patient history and examination status.
Be well versed in CT and MRI scanning technology, cross-sectional anatomy, and gross pathology. These skills and knowledge are essential to be able to identify artifacts in the images, and to be able to respond to clinicians' detailed requests for views depicting certain anatomy and/or pathology, measurements and guides to surgical planning.
Use EPIC and Weblog to check patient medical history and update exam status, for tracking, order entry (when applicable) and billing purposes.
Maintain confidentiality of Patient Health Information (PHI) in all Multi-D Lab Databases and reporting systems. Required systems access: Visage (PACS), and Electronic Medical Records (EMR), Powerscribe and multiple private drives for research and clinical purposes.
Perform tasks accurately with attention to detail, changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure.
Function independently and competently in stressful situations while responding positively to changes in the work environment related to changing patient needs.
Work cooperatively within the health-system, co-workers, and multidisciplinary team members (i.e. Physicians, Patient Care Services, Staff members, etc.).
Utilize effective time management to set priorities, perform job related responsibilities, and respond quickly to emergency situations all while using analytical and critical thinking skills to effectively problem-solve.
Work in conjunction with radiologists and other clinicians to ensure that the post processed images are of maximal clinical value.
Assists in the instruction of physicians and technologists who are learning 3D imaging applications
Additional duties may include working on special projects, such as creating documentation of procedures and instructions to be shared with CT and MRI technologists, new software evaluations and assisting in selecting of new software packages and their set-up, or assignment to departmental committees.
Provide Tumor Measurement tracking services.
Provide DICOM image redaction services.
Provide evidential experience of working in a digital imaging environment and appropriate management of digital information in the health system.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues with self-reliance and SBI documentation

Be proficient in lab management tasks, organization of daily workflows, and development of innovative practices for the lab

Quality Control

Operations
* Restocks linens and supplies, and maintains the department in clean and orderly condition.

* Applies shielding, supportive and immobilization devices and equipment.
* Willingly lends knowledge and assistance to others upon request as needed and routinely as time is available, without prompting, so that all working time is used for departmental advantage.

Perform a variety of tasks involved in operating x-ray equipment to make radiographs of designated anatomical areas of interest. Adjust equipment for proper radiographic exposure techniques in accordance with radiation safety guidelines.

Our Abdominal Imaging Division works closely with Duke's elite oncologic, urologic, and general surgeons. In addition, we have close collaborations with hepatobiliary, pancreatic, colorectal, and endocrine/thyroid multidisciplinary working groups. Job Summary:
Must be flexible with work hours to meet department needs. Must be dependable, accountable and cooperative. Assists with providing safe, age appropriate care to the patient by performing all exams provided by the department according to department procedures. Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study. Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative in the utilization of the equipment for the diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases. Able to independently perform job functions. Sets up the equipment to provide imaging service and positions patient for the procedure. Works with students during their clinical rotation.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Patient Care
* Obtains complete clinical history, gathers examination data and assesses for contraindicating conditions.
* Follows established procedures for the administration of contrast medias so that no patient condition deteriorates, and no patient suffers undue pain, due to error or poor technique if applicable.
* Ensures that all studies have proper patient identification and right and left marker are utilized appropriately.
* Reviews radiographic images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients.
* Responds to emergency situations and provides for the restocking of the crash cart and maintenance of life support equipment if applicable.
* Assists other technologists in all modalities when needed if applicable.
* Observes patient condition and properly evaluates situations when physician intervention is necessary so that no patient condition deteriorates as the result of misjudgment.
* Verifies two unique patient identifiers and correct clinical order prior to performing a procedure per policy.
* Ensures patient's privacy and comfort is accommodated.
* Demonstrates competence in the determination and application of appropriate procedures, equipment, supplies and techniques based on the age of patients.
* Organizes schedule, time and priorities so that required activities are accomplished within designated time frames.
* Uses critical thinking skills.
* Asks clarifying questions.
* Seeks clarification on ambiguous orders.
* Understands, demonstrates and documents preprocedural verification and Time Out process when appropriate if applicable.
* Demonstrates and understands pre-and-post procedural care.

* Cleans, disinfects and maintains equipment in accordance with infection control policy and department schedule.
* Ability to operate all aspects of the system.
* Ability to operate all radiographic equipment in a safe and competent manner. Assuring that equipment is not abused and is left in good working order.
Education and Communication
* Patiently and clearly explains purpose and nature of exam to patient prior to starting of procedure, to minimize anxiety and facilitate cooperation using AIDET; Acknowledge, Introduce, Discuss, Explain, and Thank you of all patients and family members.
* Ensures that patient's questions, concerns or contraindications are satisfactorily addressed, notifying physician when this cannot be accomplished, prior to the initiation of the procedure.
* Participates in the orientation and training of departmental employees.
* Provides patients with preparatory instruction and explanation of procedures.
* Required documentation is concise, legible and includes precise terminology.
* Reads email each day scheduled to work and follows through with assignment.
* Completes mandatory departmental and Hospital-wide education without prompting.
Quality Control
* Consistently produces high quality images including appropriate collimation, shielding, technique selection, penetration and positioning.
* Ensures that equipment is fully operational prior to each use, by checking for proper calibration and operating deficiencies.
* Sends all studies to PACS; prints CDs as necessary. All exams are complete in RIS including image oriented, marked, labeled, and notes are accurate.
* Studies that have been transmitted after hours by teleradiography are printed and scanned into PACS, if applicable.
* Checks for prior exams and assures that they are loaded, if necessary, and properly labeled prior to sending to PACS.
Operations
* Restocks linens and supplies, and maintains Diagnostic Imaging Services in clean and orderly condition.
* Transports patients, positions patients, and helps them on and off procedure table.
* Performs patient charging activities on the day the service is rendered.
* Applies shielding, supportive and immobilization devices and equipment.
* Willingly lends knowledge and assistance to others upon request as needed and routinely as time is available, without prompting, so that all working time is used for departmental advantage.
* Performs routine duties of clerical and support personnel in accordance with procedure when warranted to
* ensure continuity and quality of services.
* Keeps supervisor informed on all responsibilities on an ongoing basis, ensuring prompt notification in the event of problems or potential problems.
* Maintains an individual productivity rate equal to other co-workers.
* Maintains Joint Commission and any other regulatory agency standards.
* Ability to transfer / retrieve images on the PACS system.
* Takes call when necessary.
