Participate in emergency interventions outlined by SCIP-R trainings and BIPs.
This position follows a 12-month school calendar, with hours from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED Required
Associate's degree or equivalent Preferred
Experience working with children, preferably in a special education or childcare setting.

Physical Requirements:

The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:· Effectively implement and administer Learning Center programs, activities, and services that prepare students for success and create a learning environment that facilitates achievement of academic and personal enrichment outcomes;· Provide effective Learning Center supervision to promote and stimulate program engagement with students;· Act as a role model and provide guidance to all students;· Support program teachers during academic and personal enrichment programs;· Implementing the Teacher's lesson plans and maintaining daily classroom schedules;· Supporting each child's social, emotional and intellectual growth and development;· Ensuring the wellbeing and safety of children at all times;· Using a variety of instructional and assessment strategies, as directed by the Teacher, to meet individual student needs;· Assisting students with assignments or difficult concepts;· Maintaining communication with parents, staff and faculty regarding the progress of students.

QUALIFICATIONS
BACKGROUND SCREENING
Must submit to and pass Level 2 background screening through the Florida Department of Children & Families.
Must pass pre-employment drug test
Certifications
Current CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
Previous work experience with youth, preferably in an afterschool or summer enrichment program.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE
Experience working with children strongly preferred
Basic understanding of childhood development and steps to support children of various ages
Ability to effectively communicate with teachers and parents regarding student's progress and behavior
Strong organizational skills are essential to aid in preparing materials for several daily lesson plans
Personal accountability and patience are essential when working with children daily in a classroom environment
Ability to prioritize activities quickly and support the teacher in instances that are exceptionally busy
Basic writing, math, and science skills are necessary to assist in teaching students and answering their questions

General Responsibilities of the Teacher Assistant :
Under the supervision of the Regional Director/Principal, Assistant Principal, Educational Supervisor and Classroom Teacher, the Teacher Assistant is responsible for assisting the teacher in the overall supervision of the classroom and ensuring the health and safety of all children in attendance many of whom have special needs.
The Teacher Assistant is actively involved in all aspects of the program including but not limited to direct interaction with the children, families and staff of The Arc of South Florida.
The Teacher Assistant is responsible for keeping the site clean and organized, assisting with record keeping and evaluation of children and carrying out other duties as requested by supervisors.
Minimum School and Training Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalency. CDA or FCCPC preferred.
Complete 45-hour and 10-hour training required by the Department of Children and Families of all childcare workers if required by program.
Experience working with children preferred.
First Aid / Infant/child CPR within the required time frame of the specific program.
Maintain ongoing professional development training according to program design.
Duties - including but not limited to:
A. Interactions with children:
Initiate interactions with children including physical and verbal interactions that are developmentally appropriate, caring and nurturing.
Lead small groups of activities in the classroom.
Participate in all aspects of care of children including diapering, feeding and positioning.
Incorporate therapy recommendations into daily routine under supervision of teacher.
Use developmentally appropriate practices.
Assist teacher in implementing curriculum through school program curricula.
Assist teacher in implementing the Family Support Plan, Education Plan or specific grant program.
