Shippensburg University is currently seeking to hire a full-time defensive assistant coach who is well organized and coaches with passion.
This is a full-time, 12-month, non-teaching position. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: recruitment of qualified student-athletes with a commitment to academic success and the ability to relate to those student-athletes; compliance with University, Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations; player development; scouting; budget management; fundraising; and other duties assigned by the head football coach.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Report to the head coach and responsible for specific assignment designated by the head coach.
* Adhere to all rules and regulations mandated by Shippensburg University, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
* Attend all team practices and competitions.
* Instruct student-athletes in the fundamentals of the sport.
* Develop, recommend, and administer specific student-athlete training/conditioning program and skill development.
* Determine individual student-athlete strengths/abilities and recommend student-athlete utilization.
* Evaluate student-athlete team progress and performance according to stated objectives and recommend changes as indicated.
* Monitor student-athlete academic performance and implement appropriate measures in support of their academic performance with emphasis on retention and graduation.
* Recommend discipline of student-athletes for infractions of rules/regulations and misconduct.
* Assist with scouting activities.
* Assist with student-athlete recruitment.
* Recommend purchasing of equipment and supplies.
* Assist sports information staff with publicity efforts.
* Ensure appropriate safety precautions are followed when conducting team activities.
* Cooperate with athletic trainers to ensure student-athletes receive proper medical and physical training services.
* Annually, successfully complete First Aid and Safety and CPR certifications and required NCAA educational modules.
* Attend appropriate athletics department staff meetings.
* Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Qualified candidates will have:
* A bachelor's degree and two years of college coaching experience.
* Must possess effective communication skills and the demonstrated ability to work with effectively with individuals from varied backgrounds and experiences.
* Successful performance in an on-campus interview is required.

Key Responsibilities
The Assistant Coach will:
Enforcing district and department behavioral and academic expectations of their student-athletes.

Coaching players, assigning positions, teaching basic fundamentals and strategies of sport, developing team goals and game strategies through a successful season.
