The therapist participates in varied Rehabilitation Services department activities designed to enhance patient care and programs. A Physical Therapist II demonstrates advanced evaluation and treatment skills and is involved in program development, staff education, student supervision. Also demonstrates emerging leadership skills and mentors department staff. Other duties as assigned. EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION: A minimum of two years of clinical Therapist experience meeting requirements of Level I responsibilities as determined by interview and assessment. EDUCATION DESCRIPTION: Bachelors, Masters, or Doctorate degree from an accredited Physical Therapy program is required. SPECIAL SKILLS DESCRIPTION: Must be proficient at all PT level 1 competencies, maintain productivity level and have the potential to take on additional responsibilities. May require clinical expertise in specific discipline. LICENSURE DESCRIPTION: WI state license as a Physical Therapist is required. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required within 3 months of hire. RN/OT/PT/SLP is preferred. Applies insurance guidelines regarding authorization and number of visits. Responsible for cleaning up after patient treatment, putting away equipment, and keeping area neat and orderly. Performs various manual techniques, patient positioning, transferring and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique. Demonstrates skill in use of modalities, exercise equipment and other devices that are available in area worked per department orientation checklist. Participates in performance improvement activities designed to identify and resolve problems affecting patient care outcomes and to improve quality of care. May manage a caseload of Physical Therapist Assistants (PTA) including evaluating their patients, insuring compliance with established Care Plan, and adhering to all State of Wisconsin regulations regarding PTA supervision. Performs Home Health Aide joint visits as appropriate to maximize patient's functional abilities in the home. May assist with evaluating patients, turning patient over to PTA and informing PTA of Plan of Care (POC) per State of Wisconsin regulations. Teaches appropriate treatment procedures and supportive activities to patients and caregivers and develops plan for obtaining adaptive devices as needed. Discusses caseload issues and changes in case census with management. Communicates problems to physicians and management, and clearly states plans, actions and goals so changes are reflected as they occur. Participates in chart audits and continuous quality improvement activities. Facilitates discharge planning process and utilizes interagency/system and community resources to assure continuity of care after discharge. Acts as a resource to employees, which includes training/orienting, mentoring, and providing guidance on more complex issues. Serves as an instructor for students, meeting all expectations of the Clinical Student Program. Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.
