    The Surgical PA Service at Vassar Brothers Medical Center is seeking to add a board-certified full-time Physician Assistant to join its team. We are a hospital-based group that offers a supportive and team-based environment with exposure to multiple surgical subspecialties. Responsibilities include OR coverage as well as management of admissions, consults, floor rounds, post-op management and discharge of patients. This position is a great opportunity for growth and exposure to high acuity patients, complex procedures and a high volume of DaVinci Robotic Surgery cases. * Vassar Brothers Medical Center Service Responsibilities:* * OR First Assisting- case coverage includes but is not limited to the specialties of General Surgery, Colorectal, Hepatobiliary, GYN/ GynOnc, Labor and Delivery, Plastic Surgery, Urology, Head and Neck, Bariatric Surgery, Endocrine Surgery, DaVinci Robotic Surgery * Rounding- Surgical PA's round on general surgery and surgical oncology patients daily. This is done as a team-based approach with attendings, surgical residents, medical students and PA students * Admissions/ Consults- Surgical PA Services are responsible for admissions and consults for patients in the emergency department and inpatient floors * Floor Procedures- Surgical PA's are responsible for floor procedures including NG tube and difficult foley insertion, wound vac changes, bedside I&D This position is for three 12-hour shifts per week with one weekend shift per month. There is an extensive onboarding and training period as well as a supportive environment for collaboration and learning. *Qualifications* * The qualified candidate will be a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program and be NCCPA certified as well as possess strong surgical and patient management experience. * Candidates with at least one to three years of surgical experience and/or surgical residency trained candidates preferred, but new graduates will be considered as will new nurse practitioners with RNF certification and surgical experience. Request radiology exams, lab tests, EKGs when clinically indicated and interpret these results based on clinical findings and in consultation with supervisors where appropriate. Review all specialty consults and hospital returns to ensure that the standard of care is met and recommendations of the consultant are implemented. Perform chart reviews and summaries for patients transferring facilities including updating problem lists, rewriting medication orders, and reconciling orders and consults as needed. Generate special needs referrals and documentation as needed (for patients with (disabilities, dietary restrictions, heat sensitivity, or other relevant flags). Only a few such cases have been performed to date worldwide. Today, we continue to set global standards. Our living donor liver transplant program has grown significantly with innovative surgical techniques involving fully-robotic liver transplants. In April 2025, our program performed its first fully robotic liver transplant, one of three centers in the country. Our program has become the first robotic living donor program in New York State, with all live living donor surgeries performed robotically since 2023. Our Physician Assistants practice as a cohesive team to ensure the care and caring of our patients and their families. You'll often hear our PAs refer to New York-Presbyterian as a PA-run institution. Take front line responsibility for screening, diagnosis and treatment of reproductive conditions as part of a proud, patient-focused tradition. The focus of our team is to provide outstanding care to the liver transplant and hepatobiliary surgical patients. The PA acts as the nucleus of a multi-disciplinary team that is made up of transplant surgeons, hepatologists, transplant pharmacy, social work, dietician and psychiatry. The PA follows those patients who have undergone a liver transplant or have had hepatobiliary surgery closely and takes ownership of their care. The transplant PA runs the service in conjunction with the above disciplines and becomes an expert in management of liver transplant patients. The service is an excellent combination of medicine and surgery, which is unique for the inpatient setting. This position will work three 12.5 hour shifts a week, with day/night rotation.
