Responsibilities:
Perform thorough, accurate preventative maintenance inspections.
Following schedules, complete all required maintenance operations including lubrication, fluid changes, brake adjustments, and tire rotation.
With direction from the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor, performs unscheduled maintenance as needed.
Performs complex operations including engine, electrical, fuel, brake, and exhaust repairs and field tests. This requires interpreting and working from drawings, specifications, and other technical materials.
Perform emergency roadside services as needed.
Inspection of equipment and diagnose mechanical defects.
Document repairs and parts on work orders completely and accurately
Maintain tools and workplaces so that conditions are neat and orderly.
Performs other duties as required.
Emergency conditions may require on call service calls, extended hours, or weekend work flexibility.
May, on occasion, be required to drive vans, buses, and vehicles to perform road tests etc.

Qualifications:
2+ year(s) experience as diesel mechanic or mechanic preferred.

This will include Daily PM's, working on trouble calls, working on projects laid out by the maintenance lead. This person will need to be able to work with minimal supervision.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performing work safely and in accordance with GMP and housekeeping standards. Must wear PPE to avoid cuts when entering the machine. Must be aware of surroundings at all times
Understand and adhere to all safety requirements.
Trouble shoot equipment
Perform PM's without supervision
Communicate with the Maintenance lead
Be proficient with all measuring tools
Be proficient with all hand tools.
Be able to read and understand electrical schematics, hydraulic schematics, hard copy PLC programs, I/O programs.
Possess some basic skills with welding, milling machine, and lathe
Possess the skills to electrically and mechanically trouble shoot equipment. Able to read blueprints.
Candidate should be able to demonstrate good mechanical aptitude.
Troubleshoot, repair and rebuild plant equipment.
Experience required in operating lathes and Bridgeport machines.
Some experience in welding is preferred.

Perform light body repairs, including but not limited to, replacing body parts, panels, bumpers and doors; priming and painting; and any other related activity.
Maintains vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing and painting if needed.
Assist with inventory control through communicating part number utilization and remaining stock in inventory.
Contains costs by evaluating service and parts options, as well as warranty provisions when available.
Provide back-up for service line fueling, washing and cleaning.
Perform snow and ice clean-up/removal at all Transit District facilities using designated snow equipment.

Examples of Duties
1. Three years full time experience as a heavy duty fleet mechanic
2. Requires an individual with a stable work history
3. .Proficiency in hydraulics, electrical systems, air-conditioning, air brakes and bus mechanical systems.
4. Ability to quickly diagnose/correct mechanical and electrical problems, follow directions and work independently.
5.. Successful completion of the Basic DC Electricity, brake Level 1, steering/suspension training, and PLC training courses.
6..Operate buses on property and for road tests, also required to respond to service calls for breakdowns while buses are in service.
