Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a per diem Physician Assistant for the department of Surgery at the New Jersey Medical School. Under the direction and supervision of a Dr. Keri Lunsford, provides health care services to patients and assist in the management of patients under clinical trial in the Division of Transplant and HPB Surgery at Rutgers NJMS. PA should have specialized knowledge and experience in organ donation, liver transplant, complications of liver transplant, and the evaluation and management of liver transplant patients both prior to and following transplantation. In addition to clinical duties, the PA will be responsible for maintenance and upkeep of clinical trial records, assessment of complications occurring following clinical trial enrollment, and entry and audit of clinical data into the data management system. They will be required to undergo training and certification in clinical trial data management and human subjects research, and they will interface with clinical and research personnel. Among the key duties of this position are the following: Examines patient, performs comprehensive physical examination, and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination. Provides documentation for patient clinical assessment for those enrolled in liver transplant clinical trials. Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiogram, and laboratory tests, and interprets test results for deviations from normal and ensure protocol compliance for patients enrolled in liver transplant clinical trials. Performs therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, and managing infection. Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes, and assists in provisions of continuity of care for clinical trial patients. Instructs and counsels patients regarding enrollment and consent for clinical trials in liver transplant, compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens, expected clinical course prior to and following liver transplant, physical frailty, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance. Provide timely data entry, management, and critical review for patient registration and tracking in clinical trial data management system. Reviews all clinical adverse events with study principal investigator or co-investigator. In conjunction with the medical staff, develops and maintains all clinical and research requirements related to regulatory agencies of the local, state, and federal governments. Patient population consists of kidney, pancreas, and liver transplant recipients; kidney donors; hepatobiliary patients; general surgery procedures on pre- and post-transplant patients; inpatient liver transplant evaluations. Performs physical examinations and takes complex medical histories on high acuity patients. Orders and reviews laboratory studies, as well as diagnostic procedures. Reviews patients' progress and managing patient care accordingly. Maintains all required documentation for patient care. Facilitates inpatient multidisciplinary rounds daily on post operative patients. Participates in continuing medical education to include specialty and sub-specialty meetings, boards, and conferences. Orders consultations and interacts with members of other specialty medical teams. Participates in and presents Morbidity and Mortality presentations. Participates in kidney and liver transplant selection committees. Participates in monthly APC education meetings. Participate in other meetings and trainings as outlined by leadership team. Procedures: Line/drain removal, wound care, suturing. Assists in the operating room as needed for kidney, pancreas, liver transplants. Other surgeries include laparoscopic/robotic hernia repairs, liver resections, PD catheter insertions/removals, donor nephrectomies, native nephrectomies, etc. Assists in the collection of data for research as necessary. The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual. Minimum Qualifications Required: Current licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant from the State of Utah. Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire. Preferred: Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria. This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. Included in the mission of the School of Dental Medicine is to educate dental care providers (both dental students and dental residents) and to address the oral health care needs of the underserved population of North Carolina. The School of Dental Medicine meets these missions by operating dental clinics that provide both educational experiences for the dental students and residents and provides dental care to the residents of North Carolina. These clinics occur in both Ross Hall in Greenville, North Carolina, as well as Community Service-Learning Centers located throughout North Carolina. To operate these clinics, appropriate dental auxiliaries and clinical staff are needed. Job Duties The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Faculty is responsible for educating predoctoral dental students and advanced education residents (AEGD, GPR and Pediatric Dentistry programs) at the School of Dental Medicine in the discipline of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Faculty is appointed in the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery within the Department of Surgical Sciences. The Department of Surgical Sciences also includes the specialties of Endodontics, Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, Oral Medicine, Orofacial Pain and Periodontology, along with Emergency Dentistry. The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Faculty reports directly to the Division Director of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The Division and Department work in close collaboration with the other Departments (Foundational Sciences, General Dentistry, and Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics) and with the Offices of Clinical Affairs, Dental Education and Informatics, Educational Support and Faculty Development, Extramural Clinical Practices, Student Affairs, and Research to support the School's educational programs, initiatives and mission. In addition, the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Division works closely with other Schools and Colleges of East Carolina University and other components of the University of North Carolina, as well as local/regional educational and clinical programs, including ECU Health Medical Center. The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Faculty supports the development, implementation and delivery of innovative curricula and instruction to dental students and residents at the School of Dental Medicine. The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Faculty actively participates in the delivery of patient care and the generation of new knowledge via research and scholarly activities. The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Faculty is committed to service and engagement at the local, State and/or national level. Specific duties include: * Provision of instruction in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery to predoctoral dental students in the didactic, preclinical and clinical settings within a General Dentistry teaching model. * Assessment of student achievement of competencies (knowledge, values and skills) expected of the independent general dentist (graduate), including hard and soft tissue oral surgery. * Provision of instruction in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery to advanced education residents in interdisciplinary, didactic seminars and in the clinic. * Provision of direct patient care including maxillofacial trauma, oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthognathic surgery, TMJ disorders, pathology and reconstruction, moderate conscious sedation, dentoalveolar surgery and dental implants. * Participate as a member of the Craniofacial Team and the Facial Trauma Team with interdisciplinary partners from the Brody School of Medicine, ECU Health Medical Center and other ECU Health Sciences units. * Provision of care while participating on ECU Health Facial Trauma Call * Working closely with the Division Director, Department Chair and the Assistant Dean for Dental Education and Informatics to develop, implement and deliver novel curricula to include active learning strategies and information technologies. * Assisting the Division Director, Department Chair and Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs in continuous quality improvement and compliance efforts. * Conducting basic and/or clinical research, and other scholarly activities that will help qualify the candidate for appropriate promotion. * Service on committees and boards for state/federal government agencies, professional societies, and within the School and University. * Preparation of accreditation and other program documentation as needed. * Attending meetings and representing the School in internal and external venues as requested by the Division Director, Department Chair or the Dean.
