Great Gull Island (GGI), NY, is the breeding site for 35% of the federally endangered Roseate Terns (~2,300 pairs) breeding the northwest Atlantic population, and the second largest colony (~11,000 pairs) of Common Tern on the east coast of North America. The Rubega Lab in the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology department has a grant to enhance nesting habitat for terns on GGI and create a biosecurity plan to protect the colony from predatory mammals, disease, and invasive plant species. The Program Manager (Research Assistant 3) will supervise all aspects of this project. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Organizing and managing the logistics of a nesting habitat restoration project for Common and Roseate Terns breeding on Great Gull Island. Implementing a Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP) for all projects related to this habitat restoration project. Ordering and supervising the transportation of supplies to the island. Coordinating with the herbicide contractor and crew for twice-yearly application of herbicides to control invasive plant species on the island. Coordinating and supervising volunteers conducting habitat enhancement on the island, including planting native plant plugs, installing nest boxes, and spreading pea gravel to enhance habitat over existing concrete structures. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES We are seeking highly motivated and creative applicants who can lead a project on Misophonia, a psychological and behavioral disorder in which individuals experience adverse emotional reactions to specific sounds (“auditory triggers”). The broad project goal is to develop computational models of hearing and perception that are fitted to human perceptual measurements and that can be used to characterize and diagnose misophonia. The models will also be used to develop sound processing tools to remove and de-emphasize auditory triggers (e.g., with headphones) and improve participant outcomes. The project will use a variety of approaches, including human perceptual experiments, machine learning, digital signal processing, and computational models of hearing. UConn has a vibrant neuroscience community, and there are opportunities for collaboration between departments, institutes, and Universities involved in the project. Job Description Duration: 2 weeks (Exact dates: 2/2/26 - 2/13/26) Compensation: $20 per hour About the Role: We are seeking a reliable, detail-oriented individual to assist with short-term market research and data collection. This role involves visiting designated locations, observing, and manually counting individuals as part of a structured data collection project. Key Responsibilities: Visit assigned sites in Connecticut and conduct field observations Count and record people, vehicles, or other specified metrics accurately Follow a detailed observation and reporting protocol Submit daily observations in a timely and organized manner Communicate any issues or discrepancies promptly Requirements: Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately record data Comfortable working independently in public spaces Able to commit to the full 2-week assignment Prior experience in data collection, research, or related roles is a plus, but not required Must have access to a vehicle To Apply: Please submit your resume and a brief note explaining your availability and experience with short-term projects.
