FULLTIME EARLY CHILDHOOD COUNSELOR at our SEED Program - WILLMAR, MN (Starting January 2026)
*Counselor $50k-$52k+ (DOE)
PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES:
Serving in a Circle of Courage community with 4 core Values of Belonging, Mastery, Independence, and Generosity. The most important one is Belonging; where everyone feels that they are a significant part of their local team (they are listened to).
Reaching out with mental health services children who are at-risk and their families. Your services will be primarily in a welcoming Early Childhood Day Treatment environment, and some family based services for clinical care children and families.
Connecting with other agencies (customers) who are working with the child.
Scheduling. Your service will focus on helping the family and child, often during Day Treatment hours. Some after school hours and evenings about twice per week to connect with families.
Documenting. Like all agencies, documenting of case notes and billable hours is required.
Billing. Full-time staff provide 109 client hours per month out of the 173 working hours available in a month (40 hours x 4.3 actual weeks per month). The average client hours are 26-28 hours per week.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Counselor Level:
High School Diploma with 4000 hours of working with children and families under the direct clinical supervision of a licensed mental health professional or;
Bachelor's degree with 2000 hours of working with children and families under the direct supervision of a licensed mental health professional or;
Bachelor's degree in behavioral health or related field and completed a practicum or internship that requires direct interaction with adults and children and is focused on behavioral sciences or related fields' or;
Master's degree in human services related field.
EXPERIENCE:
Demonstrated ability to work with children and families experiencing mental health issues in a direct care role.
Familiar with a variety of counseling techniques with theories to aid in the care and treatment of individuals with mental health needs such as behavior modifications for children, child development education, communication, decision-making skills, anger management, social skills, leisure, self-esteem and basic home budgeting.

As a licensed therapist with Family Preservation Services/CCS you will:

Camp Menogyn, located on the Gunflint Trail in Grand Marais, Minnesota, is seeking responsible and resilient Trail Counselors to lead wilderness trips and support wilderness trip camp programming for teens teenagers. This is a seasonal, outdoor-intensive role that involves extended backcountry travel, group leadership, and participation in broader camp activities. Onsite shared staff housing is provided while not on trail.
Trips range from two to 40 nights across the U.S. and Canada. Guides also support base camp operations. Trail guides must be at least ages 18 + (or 21 if driving) and possess or can obtain certifications such as ARC Lifeguarding and Wilderness First Responder. The role requires emotional resilience, the ability to work outdoors in all conditions, and physical capability to lift and carry up to 100 lbs on rugged terrain.
1. Job Summary:
The Trail Counselor is responsible for leadership in group facilitation and wilderness camping for groups of teenagers, families, or adults as well as program support.
2. Essential Functions:
* Provide professional and culturally sensitive leadership to diverse groups of campers on overnight wilderness trips and during pre-trip preparation
* Provide inclusive instruction in wilderness camping, canoeing, and backpacking
* Participate in camp programs, such as campfires, group singing, and games
* Guide and influence the trail group's social interaction and personal growth
* Observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, and apply the necessary behavior-management techniques
* Promote the core values - Caring, Equity, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility
* Enforce safety and health regulations and emergency procedures
* Comfortable leading a group of teenagers for at least 7 days in remote and backcountry wilderness areas
* Complete all paperwork including camper evaluations, parent letters and trip reports etc. in a timely, high-quality manner
* Participate in routine camp maintenance, facility upkeep and other duties as assigned
3. Relationships:
This position reports to both the Program Director and Executive Director. Trail Counselors need to maintain professional, positive working relationships with the entire camp team including kitchen staff, office and support staff and other trail counselors.
4. Qualifications:
Required:
Required certifications provided by YMCA or other certified organization may be acquired after hire but must be completed before an employee supervises youth in the backcountry:
* Lifeguard certification. The YMCA recognizes and accepts certifications from the following institutions: American Red Cross, YMCA, Star Guard, and Boy Scouts of America
* Basic Life Support/CPR for the Professional Rescuer (renewed annually). Must include adult, child, and infant 1 and 2 person and use of an AED.
o The YMCA recognizes and accepts certifications from the following institutions: American Safety and Health Institute BLS, American Red Cross BLS or CPR for the Professional Rescuer, American Heart Association Basic Life Support.
* Wilderness First Responder (WFR).
o The YMCA recognizes and accepts WFR certifications from a variety of institutions if they meet certain requirements. A full course must be at least 70 hours with a practical in-person component, must be called a "Wilderness First Responder" certification, and the institution providing the certification must have a medical director who is an MD and advises on the curriculum.
* Minimum age of 18 years
* If applicable, valid DOT Medical Examiners Certificate
o Valid US Driver's License and ability to pass both external driving background check and camp driving evaluation as well as a Physical Exam
o Minimum age of 21

Camp Warren in Eveleth, MN is seeking enthusiastic and responsible overnight cabin staff to support our summer programming June 8th - August 28st. We provide seven sessions and the ideal candidate must be available to support multiple sessions + mandatory staff training June 8-15th.
The salary for this position starts at $80.00 daily. We take into consideration an individual's background and experience in determining salary; therefore, base pay offered may vary considerably depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes a wide range of other benefits and earned time off that vary depending on part-time or full-time status.
1. Job Summary: The Overnight Camp Counselor is responsible for planning, leading, coordinating, and implementing core and non-core programs and experiences for children in a small group setting in daily program and in the overnight cabin setting. They will also be responsible for the general safety and development, growth, and skill achievement of the participants in their group. The incumbent will provide high quality outdoor educational and recreational experiences for participants that focus on the YMCA core values of caring, equity, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
2. Essential Responsibilities:
* Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers in their living unit within activities and throughout the camp in order to meet the intended camper outcomes.
* Apply social emotional learning concepts and other basic youth development principles in working with campers through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, involvement, and empowerment of youth.
* Assure campers are properly supervised at all times while in daily program and in assigned cabin sleeping arrangements.
