The **Center for Discovery and Innovation- CDI** was established by **Hackensack Meridian** **_Health_** **(HMH)** as an academic basic and translational research enterprise to rapidly translate science innovation to the clinic and to improve outcomes for patients with cancer, infectious diseases, autoimmune disease and other acute and chronic diseases. The CDI has grown rapidly since its origins in 2019, and now has 32 labs, 190 scientists and allied personnel supported by 60 NIH grants and more than 30 other grants and contracts. Areas of expertise include genomics, epigenetics, drug resistance, immunology and immunotherapy, stem cell biology, drug discovery, diagnostics and biomarker development, and pharmacology.
**Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required** :
+ Bachelor's degree or equivalent training.
+ Minimum of 1 or more years of experience.
+ Ability to work independently and have a strong work ethic.
+ Ability to work well with others in a team environment.
+ Flexible in work schedule. Must be available to occasionally come to the laboratory on a weekend day or stay late for a given experiment.
+ Lab specific technical skills.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Research Specialist, Infection Biology at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
* Performs general laboratory functions including but not limited to equipment maintenance and restocking.
* Assists in designing and performing experiments and data analysis.
* Maintains accurate notes and records of all research performed.
* Performs data collection and interpretation of results.
* Creates reports from analysis of initial observations and conclusions.
* Establishes experimental protocols, design and documentation.
* Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the lab.
* Recommends changes to the lab practices and procedures.
* Uses necessary equipment to perform studies.
* Maintains lab space.
* Learns about and shares with laboratory members the latest advances in laboratory techniques being used.
* Communicates issues to the Principal Investigator, Laboratory Manager or Department Chair.

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Research Teaching Specialist V position will support the research success in understanding the role of the microbiome in lung disease and HIV-associated lung disease. The Research Teaching Specialist V will be involved in research projects that span human studies, microbiome research, the role of inflammation, and pulmonary function. The lab will address the question of how the oral, lung, and gut microbiomes may contribute to inflammation and lung damage and why people with HIV get accelerated lung disease using human samples, organoid models, and ex vivo tissue models. The Research Teaching Specialist V is expected to directly contribute to this research by assisting in processing and analyses of human samples as well as assisting in research projects, lab organization, and lab ordering.

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Research Teaching Specialist IV will perform research within the Affective and Clinical Neuroscience Lab housed within the Center for Advanced Human Brain Imaging Research and the Department of Psychiatry. Research in the lab focuses on the establishment of biological and environmental predictors of psychiatric illness risk. The Research Teaching Specialist IV will perform duties such as, subject recruitment, data acquisition using behavioral and neuroimaging techniques (MRI), data entry, coding, database management, some data analyses, and overseeing subject reimbursements. The Research Teaching Specialist IV will be exposed to diverse subject populations, including psychiatric patients, in a lab that employs genetic, systems neuroscience, and clinical techniques.

Financially clears scheduled inpatient and outpatient services, including office visits, testing, diagnostic studies, surgeries and procedures, prior to date of service. The financial clearance process encompasses any or all of the following functions:
Verifies insurance eligibility and plan benefits.
Contact patients with inactive insurance coverage to obtain updated insurance information
Validates coordination of benefits between insurance carriers.
Explains insurance plan coverage and benefits to patients, as necessary.
Secures insurance authorizations and pre-certs for patient services both internal and external to Cooper.
Creates referrals for patients having a Cooper PCP. Contacts external PCPs to obtain referrals for patients scheduled with Cooper providers.
Refers patients with less than 100% coverage to Financial Screening Navigators.
Identifies copayment, deductible and co-insurance information.
Collects and processes patient liability payments prior to service.
Provides clear and concise documentation in systems.
Communicate daily with insurance companies, internal customers, providers and patients.
Experience Required
2 years of insurance verification or registration experience in a hospital or physician office preferred.
Working knowledge of medical insurance plans & products, coordination of benefits guidelines, and requirements for authorizations, pre-certifications and referrals preferred.
Proficiency in working with payor on-line portals, as well as NaviNet, Passport or other third-party eligibility systems preferred.

The Research Specialist will be working in the lab of Andrew Nelson performing research in the study of preclinical models for drug development. Under the direction of the team Supervisor and/or Manager, the Collections Specialist II will be responsible for Accounts Receivable tasks related to Cooper University Professional provider revenue cycle and collections. Duties will be performed in a fast-paced central billing office environment.

Experience Required

Familiarity with third-party billing processes including CPT/HCPCS and ICD-10 knowledge is desired.
