Position Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent required, associate or bachelor's degree in a design, construction, or related field preferred. Proficient user of Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and Outlook. Working knowledge of GIS or similar mapping software is required. Previous utility design experience preferred. Experience working with underground utilities preferred. Experience working in SAP platform preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required; ability to maintain a high level of professionalism when interacting with all customers (internal/external). Must possess and maintain an appropriate and valid Driver's License for the state in which the primary work functions are performed. Freese and Nichols is currently searching for an experienced CAD Technician for stormwater projects in our Houston Office. You will utilize FNI CAD software, standards, and equipment to prepare and revise technical plans and specifications. Work as part of project team and follow direction of design task lead to prepare preliminary and final design plan and profile drawings for municipal stormwater and roadway infrastructure related projects. Ability to understand client design criteria and standards and apply that knowledge in the preparation of technical plans and specifications with minimal input from engineer. Interpret sketches and markups by design task lead or client to efficiently incorporate updates and revisions to design plans. Perform quality control of deliverables to ensure all comments from design task lead and client have been incorporated into plans and specifications. Adhere to FNI CAD document control standards and file organization structure. What You'll Do * Perform drafting assignments and create/manage complex drawings for projects. * Prepare layouts, details, and markups for revisions while ensuring accuracy and compliance with standards. * Gather and apply project data, including conducting field measurements and reviews using modern tools. * Assist with preliminary calculations, quantity take-offs, and preparation of as-built drawings; review contractor submittals. * Collaborate with Project Managers, Professional Surveyors, Engineers, and Technicians throughout all project phases. * Maintain digital files and documentation in cloud-based platforms and support sustainability and safety standards. * Mentor junior staff and share best practices (based on experience). * Perform additional duties as assigned to ensure project success. What We're Looking For * High School diploma required, Associate degree or technical certification in a related field preferred. * 1-3 years of hands-on experience in computer-aided drafting. * Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D is required; familiarity with civil engineering or municipal projects is a plus. * Strong oral and written communication skills. * Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. * Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team. * Must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening and background check. * Prepare and review original design work and/or revise plans of sanitary sewers waterlines and appurtenances (hydrants, valves, manholes, service connections, crossovers, etc.). Request utility information as necessary including OUPS notification. Field verify plan information as required. Request changes/additional information from survey crew, utilities and other review agencies as needed. May be designated as Team Leader to coordinate work for an assigned Project. * Provide information to general public, developers, consultants and other department employees with respect to availability and location of water and sanitary sewers; may initiate petitions and assist in determining the proposed location of water/sewer extensions. * Assist with field and plan review for proposed improvements as needed as well as associated repair and replacement projects. * Prepares, detailed plans, specifications and working drawings of waterlines and sanitary sewers from survey data; complete record drawings and distribute. * Prepare final plans, inks, letters, etc. for waterline and sanitary sewer; assists in preparation of estimates and assessments; compile permit submittals for various agencies. * Assist with annual splits and combines related to assessments/deferments for certification to the Auditor's office and assist with inquiries of this nature. * Review and check plans for conformance with design standards and department requirements including coordination with other agency's improvements. Prepare information necessary for bidding and awarding projects. * Communicate with field personnel to resolve design and construction related issues as required. Assists in the proper scanning and filing of water and sanitary sewer plans and linking to the GIS. May produce plans/maps to assist with operation and maintenance of the water and sewerage systems. Assists with quality control and accuracy of plans. * Assists in development of design standards and specifications as needed. Assists with maintenance of record drawings, files and maps. * Gathers, verifies inputs, edits, maintains and updates attribute, database and facility data from record drawings and other records; edits and performs quality assurance on data entities and attributes. * Creates GIS user accounts and access, assists field personnel with use of GIS and GPS data collecting, and peripheral/user connections. Documents user requirements including interface with system. * Use GIS and related software and hardware in conjunction with relational databases to support and maintain the GIS database * May train other design/drafting personnel. Additional duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications * Associate's degree in Civil Engineering, Drafting and Design, or a closely related field from an accredited technical college. * Nine (9) months' experience in a Civil Engineering Drafting and Design position. * Valid driver's license in the State of Ohio.
