We currently have an exciting career opportunity available to join the HKS team as a Part Time Employment Training Specialist for our Placement department in our Brooklyn location.
The Employment Training Specialist is responsible for the execution of HKS's Mission, goals and objectives through the evaluation and development of participants'/consumers' vocational skills, interests, and experiences to develop meaningful employment opportunities in an integrated setting. Employment and Training Specialists are also responsible for providing pre-vocational services to teens to prepare them for the world of work. They maintain positive communication with participants/consumers, corporate employers, non-profit organizations, CBVH staff, and HKSB employees.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the development and execution of function/program within his/her span of control in accordance with HKS' Mission and Strategic Objectives. Specifically, responsible for:
1) Pre-vocational Services provide teens between the ages of 14-21 with exposure to the world of work and address their social, mobility, and daily living skills. Programs will be conducted at Hempstead, Islandia and Brooklyn. (Pre-vocational planning and services should consume 6- 8 weeks out of the year.)
2) Coordinate participation of other disciplines in pre-vocational services, organize and plan career exploration activities and trips, and develop next steps.
3) Assess participant's/consumer's vocational skills, interests, experiences, needs and appropriate services via a review of previous case documents and reports.
4) Ensure that participant's employment views and desires are recorded and discussed in a collaborative document.
5) Assist participants in developing goals that incorporate their employment vision and are based on their holistic needs.
6) Schedule in-person/virtual appointments with participants to better understand their vocational desires, abilities, challenges to employment, and needs.
7) Explain the vocational rehabilitation process to participants and explain each person's role and responsibilities.
8) Assess their interpersonal skills in a one-to-one setting and group setting, either in person or using a virtual format. Engage participants in creative ways that provide vocational opportunities to enhance their confidence levels.
9) Train and facilitate our Employment Empowerment Groups (Soft Skills) and our Foundations (holistic work readiness) program in all Helen Keller locations either in person or utilizing a virtual platform. These workshops will help our vocational participants to refine their communication skills and to provide them with an understanding of the workplace.
10) Coordinate participation in other disciplines (SW, O & M, VRT, ATC) in pre-vocational services, organize and plan career exploration activities and trips, and develop next steps.
11) Coordination of all aspects of the adult vocational/employment process such as a job placement assessment, work experience training, job seeking, and job development services for assigned consumers/participants.
12) Encourage and assist our participants in becoming dependable, problem-solving, team players who are as independent as possible in their place of employment.
13) Conduct all programs in Brooklyn, Hempstead, and Islandia.
14) Monitor participant's on-the-job performance with the supervisor via on-site visits, email, telephone and or a virtual platform.
15) Establish a rapport with NYSCB counselors and professionally communicate verbally or in a written format regarding services that are being provided for their participants.
16) Perform case management services required with opening and closing participant cases. This includes all work required on InFormed.
17) Maintain a monthly roster and calendar of services provided to participants and any associated reporting.
18) Attend all HKSB staff meetings and any meeting or training that the Director of Comprehensive Services or the Associate Executive Director deems appropriate.
19) Assist in obtaining contract goals.
20) All placement staff are expected to travel and perform services in our Brooklyn, Hempstead and Islandia offices, and to visit WET and competitive placement sites, and attend meetings, training courses, and conferences.
21) During a crisis situation certain aspect of our training curriculum can be provided remotely, utilizing a virtual format. However, a face-to-face meeting with consumers/participants must be conducted to close authorizations as per the New York State Commission for the Blind (NYSCB).
All Employment and Training staff are expected to travel and perform services in our Brooklyn, Hempstead, and Islandia offices, and visit WET and competitive employment job sites, and attend meetings, trainings, and conferences.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
BA in the field of human services (sociology, psychology), or human resource experience, and or job coaching and development experience
Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (C. R.C.) - Preferred

This is a critical part of the services that we provide to our young homeless women aged 18-25 years old. Match appropriate clients with appropriate job openings and arrange for interviews and persuade both prospective employers and client applicants of the features and advantages of participating in the Program's job placement services, with the goal of placement and a view toward long-term retention.
Responsibilities:
-Research and regularly initiate contact with potential employers daily obtaining as much information on the position as possible
-Provide job development services and maintain relationships with employers to elicit jobs vacancy
-Research and keep up to date on labor market information, economic data and hiring trends to creatively target and develop emerging opportunities
-Provide client support in tailoring resumes and cover letters, coaching for in demand adaptive soft skills acquisition, conducting mock interviews, and assisting with job applications
- Provide one-on-one coaching and conduct group job prep to job seekers to increase their chances of employment
- Prepare and maintain accurate, complete narrative documentation of client progress and employer relationships, at each point of contact, including resumes, interviews and employer feedback, and placement and retention data for

Third Avenue is a NYC DHS transitional shelter program designed to provide employment assistance and permanent housing for young women ages 18 - 25 years old. The program is located in Sunset Park Brooklyn, NY.
Position Summary
The Job Developer is responsible for helping clients find permanent employment and become self-sufficient. This is a critical part of the services that we provide to our young homeless women aged 18-25 years old. The Job Developer is expected to develop and maintain employer relationships with the goal of identifying and meeting their needs. Match appropriate clients with appropriate job openings and arrange for interviews and persuade both prospective employers and client applicants of the features and advantages of participating in the Program's job placement services, with the goal of placement and a view toward long-term retention.
Responsibilities:
* Research and regularly initiate contact with potential employers daily obtaining as much information on the position as possible
* Provide job development services and maintain relationships with employers to elicit jobs vacancy
* Research and keep up to date on labor market information, economic data and hiring trends to creatively target and develop emerging opportunities
* Provide client support in tailoring resumes and cover letters, coaching for in demand adaptive soft skills acquisition, conducting mock interviews, and assisting with job applications
* Provide one-on-one coaching and conduct group job prep to job seekers to increase their chances of employment
* Prepare and maintain accurate, complete narrative documentation of client progress and employer relationships, at each point of contact, including resumes, interviews and employer feedback, and placement and retention data for
weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual reports, in computerized client and employer tracking systems.

* Develop workplace talent and behaviors to secure internships enforcing employer expectations in actual workforce environment

Under the direction and supervision of the Clubhouse Program Director and in partnership with other Clubhouse staff and the members we serve, the Placement Supervisor coordinates all vocational/educational aspects of the Clubhouse. The Placement Supervisor must be able to adapt to situations as they arise; possess the flexibility and sound decision-making in order to address the daily multiplicity of activities and demands occurring in the operation of the Clubhouse Employment/Education Unit.
Essential Functions:
Goodwill Clubhouse is seeking a highly energetic and hands-on Full Time Clubhouse Generalist to perform and support a variety of activities for our members, including:
• Work closely with the Clubhouse's Intake Staff to arrange and conduct program promotions, assist with gathering referral materials and processing admissions as well as manage a caseload of participants
• Document all correspondence and entering member information into the electronic health record in a timely manner.
• Assist members in establishing member goals using a person-centered approach;
• Engage members in meaningful Clubhouse work during the work-ordered day using motivational interviewing techniques
• Continually engage members in identifying strengths and interest;
• Encourage participation in activities including involvement in health and wellness activities
• Assist in clubhouse kitchen and meal preparation
• Track and log all member support in the electronic health record
• Knowledge and ability to explain Clubhouse Policies, Code of Ethics and Clubhouse International Standards. Refer to Clubhouse Policies, Code of Ethics and Clubhouse International Standards to resolve issues and respond to inquiries
• Complete effective, meaningful, engaging and timely outreach in co-operation with unit members.
• Complete and log all necessary status change paperwork for all members in your unit in co-operation with unit partner
• Work with members to ensure unit space is cleaned and organized daily
• Facilitate the use of unit meetings to identify, organize, and prioritize work of the unit
• Encourage member participation in all health & wellness activities
Other regular responsibilities:
Design and facilitates various clubhouse activities in partnership with members
Functions as Placement Manager for members in Transitional Employment, providing on the job-training for members and filling in for members on the job during absences
Responsible for related monthly and quarterly reports

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements:
Associates Degree or High school Diploma with 2 years' experience in mental health field Bachelor's Degree preferred
Non-clinical community approach; Prior non-clinical experience working with persons with mental illness is a preferred but not required
Highly developed communication and organizational skills;
Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Sheets, Google Docs, Slack
Must be able to manage multiple fast pace environment, with strong follow-through
Be flexible in order to complete the necessary work of the Clubhouse including coverage of holidays, weekends, social activities and other special events
Must provide absence coverage for employment unit when needed.
Scope of Responsibility & Positions Supervised:
Responsible for the financial operations of the assigned unit under the direction of the Program Director
May supervise volunteers
Special Working Conditions:
Some Saturdays work required
Program is opened on all holidays
Three weeks clubhouse training at certified training base outside of New York State

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.:
Contacts and consults with potential employers regarding the development of substantial jobs for qualified deaf/blind workers in collaboration with the Employment Training Specialists and National Business Relations Specialist.
Supports consumers with developing a resume, cover letter, and skills needed to apply for jobs both online and in person.
Obtains employment interviews and assists consumers at the interview, if needed.
Provides vocational counseling and information to consumers as to work skills and appropriate work behaviors.
Facilitates and conducts Work Readiness and Soft Skills training classes for small groups of consumers or one on one in conjunction with the Employment Training Specialists and Case Manager.
Provides systematic instruction for the trainee to learn the job skills at the work site.
Makes job modifications when necessary to allow DeafBlind consumers to perform job successfully.
Provides training to consumers and employer partners in communication strategies on the job.
Assists consumers with self-advocacy regarding their responsibilities and opportunities at the work site including but not limited to identifying and requesting reasonable accommodations.
Provides in-service training to potential employers, co-workers, and support service providers in regard to the consumers' skills, potential, and support needs. Such training can be applied to competitive or supported employment situations.
Provides follow-up services for the employer and consumer in order to achieve a long-term and successful placement.
Works collaboratively with a transdisciplinary team of rehabilitation professionals to ensure that consumers receive all necessary training and supports for success in their vocational and personal goals.
Required: Extensive local travel throughout Long Island, New York City, and lower Westchester. Meeting all job duties and responsibilities may require use of personal vehicle.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Social Work, or related degree OR minimum one-year experience working with individuals who are DeafBlind, blind, Deaf or multiply disabled.
Proficiency in American Sign Language and other methods of communication utilized by individuals who are DeafBlind required.
Well versed in or willing to learn and utilize remote platforms, including but not limited to Zoom and GoToMeetings, for instruction, consumer meetings, and staff meetings.
