As a Professional Engineer for Drainage, you will have the opportunity to be involved in large, multi-discipline projects while developing diverse skill sets.
What are the core responsibilities for the role?
Perform and direct a variety of hydrology and hydraulic design work for DOT projects (i.e., bridges, roadways, highways, freeways, etc.)
Prepare studies, reports, plans, specifications, and cost estimates for a variety of transportation projects
Work within a team of project managers, design engineers, technicians, and support staff to successfully complete a variety of projects
Interface with clients including state and local agencies
Coordinate and conduct meetings with project stakeholders
Coordinate with office management and other project managers to share resources
Assist in proposal preparation including oral presentations.
Prepare the scope, schedule, and budget for new projects
Ability to meet project deadlines
Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies:
Undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited program in civil engineering
Registered Professional Engineer (PE) required
4-10 years of hydraulics design experience including:
Design of roadway drainage and flood control facilities
Design of erosion control and stormwater treatment facilities
Experience and relationships with transportation and flood control agencies are preferred
Experience with MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer (ORD)
Expertise in hydrologic and hydraulic software, including ORD Drainage and Utilities, StormCAD, PondPack, HEC-HMS HEC-RAS, etc.
Working knowledge of DOT, AASHTO, and FHWA highway drainage design criteria and guidelines
Strong verbal, and written communication skills
Ability to interact with clients and multi-discipline team members
Willingness to work on projects locally or workshare with other offices
History of meeting project deadlines and budgets
Outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Experience in managing technical staff and project teams is desirable

Prepare reports and studies that present technical information in a clear and concise manner and meet client requirements
Perform independent reviews of work performed by others including calculations and drawing preparation
Take ownership of projects from start to finish
Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university
5+ years experience with plan preparation procedures and standards
5+ years experience in Transportation
Professional Civil Engineering certification (P.E.)
Knowledge and experience with Bentley OpenRoads Designer, and other applicable software common to the field of transportation engineering
Excellent written and oral communication skills Willingness to work on projects locally or in workshare with other offices

The Impact You'll Have:
Alliant Engineering, Inc., is seeking a driven, detail-oriented Senior Transportation Engineer with a passion for collaboratively working with Contractors, Owners, and stakeholders to develop innovative construction phasing solutions. You will fill the role of MOT Design Manager on traditional and alternative delivery projects, leading a team of MOT specialists to successfully exceed project MOT goals.
The successful candidate must have extensive knowledge of roadway design standards, including A Policy on Geometric Design of Highways and Streets (AASHTO Green Book), the AASHTO Roadside Design Guide, the MUTCD, and local work zone and temporary traffic control design resources. You will lead construction phasing and traffic control plan generation; conduct MOT Taskforce meetings; develop Traffic Management Plans (TMP); and perform field reviews of deployed temporary traffic control configurations. You will have the opportunity to develop complex phasing solutions on high-profile mega-projects nationwide, including the prospect of traveling to project sites.
Responsibilities:
Lead a cohesive project team that develops MOT, construction phasing, and traffic control plans on complex traditional and/or alternative delivery projects.
Generate innovative construction phasing alternatives that optimize traffic operations while maximizing constructability and safety.
Guide the development of temporary construction plans, including roadway geometrics, alignments, profiles, models, and drainage.
Oversee traffic control plan design, including temporary signing, striping, safety devices, and detours.
Author Traffic Management Plans (TMP) to analyze and document impacts and mitigation techniques to businesses, residents, and surrounding roadway systems.
Work closely with contractors and owners to understand constructability needs and project MOT goals.
Develop team members by promoting technical and career growth.
Identify and track future MOT project opportunities.
Author MOT focused portions of proposals and generate scope/schedule/budgets for traditional, alternative, and hard bid projects.
Lead the MOT Alternative Technical Concept (ATC) development process on Design-Build projects.
Opportunity to travel to project pursuits and delivery outside of Minnesota, if desired.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
Licensed Professional Engineer with the ability to obtain UT licensure within 6 months
10+ years of progressive experience developing MOT, construction phasing, or traffic control design and plans
Experience supervising, leading, teaching, and mentoring project staff
Strong working technical knowledge of engineering principles and practices related to MOT including temporary geometry design, construction phasing, and traffic control
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment
Skillful in presenting technical concepts to clients and the public in understandable terms
Technical expertise using Microstation/Geopak and OpenRoads Designer on transportation projects
Commitment to delivering high-quality work on schedule
History of establishing and fostering strong client relationships
Design-Build or CM/GC experience preferred
Experience developing ATCs on Design-Build projects preferred

This role will work in conjunction with Project Managers, peer Engineers and CADD team members to coordinate the MOT design with other project disciplines to meet deadlines for projects throughout Utah and other regions as needed.
