The Analytical Lab Technician supports Car Care manufacturing operations by performing routine and non-routine analytical testing to ensure raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products meet established quality specifications. This role ensures timely and accurate analytical data to support production, product release, and continuous improvement efforts.
Responsibilities:
Conduct analytical and physical testing on raw materials, intermediates, and finished products following approved test methods.
Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments such as pH meters, viscometers, and FTIR.
Accurately document test results in laboratory databases in compliance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) standards.
Support manufacturing troubleshooting by providing analytical data, insights, and timely feedback.
Maintain laboratory cleanliness, manage chemical inventory, and ensure adherence to all safety and environmental procedures.
Participate in method verifications, instrument qualifications, and process improvement initiatives.
Collaborate closely with Production Teams, Product Engineers, and the Production Manager to ensure timely testing and product release.
Maintain finished goods retention samples in accordance with the Company's Quality Policy.
Escalate analytical or product quality issues to R&D to ensure timely investigation and resolution.
Support R&D in product testing for new product introductions and process qualifications

Mechanical Aptitude: Ability to safely use tools to operate and perform maintenance on laboratory equipment.
Electrical Aptitude: Ability to safely work around electrical components of laboratory equipment.
Work Conditions: Laboratory facility. Process areas contain ladders, walkways, tight places, uneven terrain, and stairs, both inside and outside.
Work Hours: As agreed upon, based on intern availability and business needs.
Safety Training: A new employee hired to perform the duties of this position is required to be provided New Employee Training by a qualified individual or through the online training system. Additionally, an employee must be provided further training if a job duty/task has changes that will affect the health and safety aspects of that employee's position.
Additional refresher safety training will be required as management deems appropriate or as dictated by government regulations.

Other duties include providing specialized training on the highly sensitive and complex SEM instrumentation; managing all internal client quotations and invoicing for CAMP services for Montana Tech students (graduate and undergraduate); training, supervising and mentoring students in the operation of laboratory equipment and proper sample/chemical handling procedures. Ensures that safe working conditions are maintained in CAMP's laboratories
Required Qualifications:
Requires a Bachelor's of Science (B.S.) in geochemistry, materials science/engineering or related field
Minimum of 5 years laboratory experience or equivalent (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience)
Proven experience training and mentoring students
Proven experience working with data acquisition and archiving
Experience in operation, imaging and analysis using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and SEM with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS)
Experience in operation of an X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and evaluation of diffractograms
Preferred Qualifications:
Possession of a M.S. degree or higher in the sciences or engineering, preferably in an area related to materials science
Experience in operation of materials characterization techniques such as EBSD, TGA, DSC, FTIR, ICP-OES and interpretation of generated data
Capability to contribute to development of proposals that utilizes CAMP's facilities to maintain and grow CAMP's research portfolio
Experience with preparation of mineralogical samples for analysis using SEM-based techniques and XRD
Experience with various wet chemical analyses
