We are seeking experienced, self-sufficient Flooring Installation Crews to join our project-based team as independent contractors (1099). Ideal candidates have strong expertise across both hard and soft surfaces, excellent attention to detail, and the professionalism to represent FCI in homes and businesses. Crews that can accept direct material deliveries and communicate clearly with English-speaking clients are especially valued. Specifically, we are looking for experienced carpet installers who also have binding/surging tools to be able to fabricate stair and hall runners on site for clients during installation. Responsibilities
Expert installation of hardwood, carpet (stretch, patterned, and tile), LVT/LVP, laminate, rolled vinyl, linoleum, rubber/gym floors, turf, and specialty flooring.
Handle subfloor prep including patching, leveling, moisture testing, and adhesive use.
Achieve precise seams, transitions, and flash coving where required.
Accurately measure, cut, and fit flooring materials with a high degree of craftsmanship.
Maintain a professional, safe, and clean job site.
Communicate effectively with clients, project managers, and FCI staff throughout the project.
Work reliably and efficiently with minimal supervision.
Requirements
Minimum 3 years of professional flooring installation experience (rolled goods, hardwood, carpet, vinyl, laminate, etc.).
Demonstrated expertise with tight seams, custom rolled goods, or heat-welded seams preferred.
Reliable transportation and valid driver's license (ability to travel across Chicago's North Side).
Must carry own insurance (GL/WC/Auto) for all jobs.
Ability to lift 75 lbs and perform physically demanding work.
Own tools and equipment appropriate for flooring installation.
Professionalism, punctuality, and strong client service skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in both residential and commercial projects.
Ability to accept and manage direct material deliveries.
