Assist attorneys in preparing, reviewing, and organizing real estate legal documents (purchase agreements, deeds, leases, closing documents, title documents).
Conduct title searches and review title commitments, surveys, and property records to identify issues such as liens, encumbrances, and easements.
Coordinate real estate closings, including preparing closing binders, gathering required documentation, and communicating with buyers, sellers, lenders, and agents.
Draft and file legal documents related to property transactions, including deeds, mortgages, liens, and releases.
Prepare closing checklists and ensure all required documents are completed and executed accurately.
Assist with due-diligence activities for commercial and residential real estate transactions.

1. Establishes and maintains trademark files: opens files, prepares formal documents for filing including, abstracts, drawings and preliminary amendments.

Legal Aid Chicago seeks a paralegal within our Public Benefits Practice Group. This is a temporary, part-time (50%) position that will last no longer than six months and is expected to end on February 28, 2026. The paralegal will focus on administrative functions associated with the HIV+ Legal Project such as the Intake Process, Grant Compliance and Community Outreach and will report to a Supervisory Attorney, and is responsible for the following tasks:
Responsibilities without limitation
Coordinate Legal Aid Chicago's dedicated HIV+ Legal Project Intake system conducting intake and comprehensive legal screening for potential new clients.
Coordinate Legal Aid Chicago's HIV+ Legal Project Community Advisory Board working with CAB members to plan meetings.
Assist Clients in completing forms required by HIV+ Legal Project funders.
Provide administrative and litigation support to attorneys including, but not limited to drafting letters, pleadings, discovery, records requests; creating outreach materials; and maintaining paper files and intake materials.
Provide advice and referrals to individuals.
Participate in maintaining good community relations by acting as a liaison between community groups and the Legal Aid Chicago staff.
Maintain knowledge of the case acceptance criteria of the Public Benefits Practice group and other Legal Aid Chicago practice groups to facilitate appropriate internal referrals.
Maintain case files and accurate case notes and timekeeping in electronic case management system.
Track data related to grants and assist with grant reporting.
Maintain proficiency with equipment and technology necessary to perform the duties of the position, and
Other duties as determined by the Supervising Attorney and Director.
Salary and Benefits:
The budgeted salary range for this position is $22,880-$25,369, which reflects 0-10 years of paid, credited experience. This position is not eligible for benefits.
Requirements

Analyze, review and organize documents and data from materials produced during discovery; and, prepare/coordinate document production and responses to discovery requests.
Prepare deposition and record subpoenas according to state and federal regulations; coordinate production of third-party records and summarize same; prepare deposition outlines and summaries.
Analyze and review privileged documents.
Trial and arbitration preparation; preparation and management of trial exhibits and other trial related assistance.
Presentation of case summaries and courses of action to supervising attorneys.
Conducting limited legal research, including but not limited to, Lexis and Pacer research.
Cite-checking when necessary.
Liaison with courts, opposing counsel, and litigation vendors, including process servers and couriers.
Knowledge of developments, procedures and rules in the forums where the office practices.
Demonstrate basic strategic thinking and initiative with case assignments.
Awareness of calendar deadlines.
Responsible for personal billable time entries and maintaining billable requirements.
Address client case status inquiries, including steps in process remaining, processing times, and appointment issues.
Skills and Educational Requirements:
5 years minimum litigation paralegal experience. Experience in employment law a plus.
Experience working with federal and state court litigation cases from onset to trial phase.
Experience with class-actions, and wage and hour productions a plus.
Knowledge of EEOC/state agency procedures a plus.
Familiarity with the rules of federal and state procedures.
