Responsibilities
Assists the registered nurse with the admission assessment by obtaining temperature, respiration, height, weight, pulse and blood pressure. Orients patient to room and unit
Attends to patient's daily hygiene, including oral care, hair care, baths, peri care, application of glasses, dentures and hearing aids.
Assists with passing meals, nourishments, water and assists patients as need indicates.
Acknowledges and meets patients' needs regarding movement and elimination.
Functions in day-to-day and emergency situations in accordance with nursing standards and as assigned by the nurse.
Maintains orderly storage of supplies and assists in accounting for chargeable items.
Documents temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, weights and diet consumption in Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
Performs Glucose Point of Care.
Performs EKG's
Applies telemetry equipment to patients using proper lead placement and discontinues equipment use.
Qualifications
Education:
Seventy-five (75) Hour NursingAssistant Course preferred
Licensure:
Certificate from an approved NursingAssistant Course is preferred

Responsibilities
Delivery of Care
Assists patients with ADL's according to hospital procedures, reports all abnormal findings and changes in patient condition to Registered Nurse in charge of patient. Assists with ambulation of patients and uses assist devices as appropriate to protect patient and staff member.
Assists with restocking of rooms and maintain a safe and clean environment.
Follows all established infection control policies and recognizes role in providing safety to the patient.
Obtain EKG under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
Transfer of patients to other areas of the hospital under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
Insertion of urinary catheters under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
Cleaning and general housekeeping of rooms between patients.
Documentation
Documents vital signs, weights, activity, intake and outputs, and ADL care given to patient in electronic health record.
Basic UPH Performance Criteria
Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.
Qualifications
Must be actively enrolled in high school or equivalent program.
Previous hospital or nursing home experience as a Patient Care Tech and/or completion of training in nursing school that covers Patient Care Tech type duties and/or Must attend UPHSL Patient Care Tech training.
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) within 90 days of hire. MOAB (Management of Aggressive Behaviors) certified within the first 6 months of hire and maintain certification throughout employment.
Basic computer knowledge
Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals.
Knowledge of basic medical terminology is preferred.
Ability to move and lift patients and use appropriate equipment.
Ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately.
Effective interpersonal relationships and communication skills (verbal, non-verbal and written).

The 12ABD Neuroscience Intermediate Care unit at Good Samaritan Hospital is dedicated to providing specialized care for patients with neurological conditions. Our team cares for patients with a wide range of neuro-related diagnoses, including those recovering from anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF), lumbar laminectomies, strokes, head injuries, and spinal cord injuries. We also manage patients following ENT surgeries and those transitioning from the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NSICU).
This 30-bed unit ensures each patient receives attentive and individualized care. A dedicated charge nurse also supports each shift to oversee patient care and assist the team as needed.
Job Overview:
Provides assistance and/or performs basic activities of daily living and specified treatments and procedures under the direct supervision of the nurse. May perform non-direct patient care activities as assigned, requested, or directed including but not limited to stocking and clerical activities.
