Responsibilities Assesses the needs of patients and families through the interpretation of written medical director protocols and creating an appropriate patient care plan within their scope of practice. Adapts and adjusts the patient's care plan according to the patient's needs in the prehospital setting and may serve as primary attendant of patient while on scene and/or during transportation. Prepared to physically intervene in potentially violent situations to provide patient care in accordance to departmental policies and procedures. Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patient's care. Carries out high quality patient care while following the scope of practice set out by the State of Iowa Public Health Department Bureau of EMS and this ambulance service. Ability to transport a patient or community member, in a safe manner through the utilization of an ambulance or secure car, potentially during adverse weather conditions. Must be able to safety transport a patient by stretcher, stair-chair, and/or by vehicle (ambulance). Represents the department at community events such as sporting event standbys, parades, and job fairs. Ability to prepare reports and testify to their accuracy/events during criminal, civil, or regulatory investigation. Documents daily, weekly, and monthly ambulance checks to ensure proper stock levels of equipment and supplies. Prepares the ambulances by ensuring they are cleaned and in a state of readiness which includes appropriate decontamination when necessary. Qualifications Education: High school graduate or equivalent Successful completion of EMS training from an approved training course Licensure/Certification: Current Iowa certification as an EMT, Iowa Advanced-EMT, or EMT-PM level required Valid Iowa driver's license for at least three years with an acceptable or clear rating according to the Motor Vehicle Record chart. (see below). Must have a minimum of two years driving experience with no record of DUI, DWI, or similar alcohol or drug related offenses over the past five years. No record of reckless driving, careless driving, speeding over 15 miles above the speed limit, fleeing or eluding a police officer, chemical test refusal, leaving the scene of an accident, driving after revocation or suspension, or passing a stopped school bus in the last five years. Experience: Previous EMS experience preferred

Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance. Qualifications * Must be actively enrolled in high school or equivalent program. * Previous hospital or nursing home experience as a Patient Care Tech and/or completion of training in nursing school that covers Patient Care Tech type duties and/or Must attend UPHSL Patient Care Tech training. * Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) within 90 days of hire. MOAB (Management of Aggressive Behaviors) certified within the first 6 months of hire and maintain certification throughout employment. * Basic computer knowledge * Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals. * Knowledge of basic medical terminology is preferred. * Ability to move and lift patients and use appropriate equipment. * Ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately. * Effective interpersonal relationships and communication skills (verbal, non-verbal and written). * Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.

Responsibilities • Assists patients with activities of daily living. • Answers patients call lights. • Assists with simple procedures as defined in work area under the direction of the RN. • Takes/monitors and records vital signs, weights, and intake and output. • Transports patients, equipment, supplies, and specimens. • Labels all specimens in accordance with standards. • Assists in maintaining a clean, orderly and safe environment. • Uses technology to promptly and accurately document care provided. • Utilizes a holistic approach (considering physical, psych/social, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria) appropriate to the age of the patients served in the assigned service area. • Demonstrates ability to consistently meet the department work schedule. • Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service. • Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patient care. • Reports in a timely manner, pertinent patient observations, significant incidents, or any changes in patient's condition to the appropriate person. • Balances team and individual responsibilities, objective and open to other's views, gives and welcomes feedback, contributes to positive team goals, and puts the success of the team above own interest. • Demonstrates effective communication with all members of the healthcare team. • Follows established, individualized plan of care and teaching plans based on identified patient needs, under the supervision of the Registered Nurse. • Demonstrates effective communication with all members of the healthcare team. Qualifications Education: • Graduate of high school or equivalent required. • Minimum of 75-hour nurse aide course required. • Validation Code of “Eligible” status by the Director Care Worker Registry preferred. • Basic computer/typing skills required. • Medical Terminology course strongly recommended. Experience: • Previous healthcare experience preferred. License(s)/Certification(s): • Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Mandatory Reporter certification or obtain certification within three (3) months from date of hire. • Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
