Responsibilities Collects/Obtains, labels, and delivers specimens in accordance with standards, and policies of available information systems Prioritizes, performs, judges, and reports routine and esoteric procedures within established time guidelines. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Science must be obtained which is sufficient to allow certification under one of the Medical Technologist (MT)/Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) Certifying Agencies' examination routes.Must meet Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) requirements to perform highly complex testing. Additionally, any regulatory agency personnel standards, which are applicable to the position, must be met. Certifying Agencies include but are not limited to the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification (BOC), American Medical Technologist (AMT) Certification, and American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB) Board of Registry (ABOR). As long as these are met, any exam may be taken. Experience in clinical laboratory disciplines sufficient to allow certification under one of the Medical Technologist (MT)/Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) Certifying Agencies' examination routes is required. Provides quality lab services to the hospital in all aspects of test performance, including the pre & post-analytic phases of testing. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills to provide Laboratory services appropriate for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Performs high complexity testing. Operate, calibrate and maintain equipment used in quantitative and qualitative analysis. Establish and monitor quality assurance programs and activities to ensure the accuracy of laboratory results. Provide technical information about tests to providers, patients and family members. Extremely high degree of accuracy and responsibility required in the performance of this job. Performs phlebotomy services as assigned. Identify patient and label all specimens with correct information Respond appropriately to all requests of STAT, call results, patient waiting or timed specimens Performs venous and capillary blood collection procedures on inpatients, outpatients and nursing home patients. Qualifications Education: An Associate Degree in a Chemical, Physical, Biological, Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology. Bachelor's Degree preferred. License(s)/Certification(s): Complete Laboratory Board of Certification through an approved agency such as American Society of Clinical Pathologists within one year of hire. Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Possess the skills required for proper specimen collection, including patient identification and preparation, labeling, handling, preservation or fixation, processing or implementing all standard Laboratory procedures; performing each test method and for proper instrument use; performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and calibration procedures related to each performed test; implementing the quality control policies and procedures of the Laboratory; assessing and verifying the validity of patient test results through the evaluation of quality control samples prior to reporting patient test results; a working knowledge of reagent stability and storage; factors that influence results, e.g., interfering substances; effective written and oral communication skills. Responsibilities Pre-Analytic workflows · Greets everyone with a pleasant and professional manner, using patient experience best practice guidelines (AIDET, 5/10 Rule and No-Point, etc.). · Identifies patients and samples using two patient identifiers, always labeling samples in the presence of the patient. · Collaborate with nursing services to receive and issue blood products. · Performs venous and capillary blood collections independently for patients of all ages within specified safety parameters, timelines and pace. · Performs sample processing, aliqouting, and sample preparation for transport. · Oversees the collection of urine drug screens and breath alcohol, complying with DOT regulations and/or company protocol. · Utilizes supply items in a cost effective manner, recognizing when to reorder, and assisting with unpacking and/or restocking items. · Demonstrates knowledge of computer programs for patient identification, registration, order, sample tracking and reporting test results. · Achieves basic understanding of lab tests to answer patient questions in an easy to understand way.
