Responsibilities * Perform Speech Therapy evaluation and development of the plan of care appropriate for each patient based on the patient's physical, mental, emotional, and developmental impairments and functional limitations. A variety of diagnoses and possibility of all 3 settings served include but are not limited to communicative, cognitive, and swallowing disorders * Provide Speech Therapy interventions in accordance with established standards of care, policies, procedures, and state/federal law. Interventions may be related to but not limited to communicative, cognitive, and swallowing disorders. * Supervise and complete appropriate documentation for Speech Therapy students as assigned by CCCE. * Schedule Speech Therapy services according to department * Complete documentation in electronic medical record in a timely manner in accordance within department and professional expectations demonstrating the need for skilled interventions. * Participate in patient care conferences/staffing as appropriate for multidisciplinary patients. Qualifications Education: * Master's degree from an accredited Speech Therapy program. Experience: * 2 years' experience as a Speech Therapist. License(s)/Certification(s): * Current IA and/or IL Speech Therapy licensure (or eligible). * Current CPR certification. * Certification of Clinical Competency issued by ASHA within 1 year of hire. Other: Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position. Working knowledge of Epic. * Specific offers are determined by various factors, such as experience, skills, internal equity, and other business needs. Coverage is need in an acute care setting to perform clinical bedside swallowing assessments. Experience in performing Modified Barium Swallow assessments is preferred. Coverage needed for weekends and holidays, with opportunities to cover patients during the week. Overview Memorial Hospital Belleville is an acute care hospital offering medical and surgical services plus critical and emergency care including Children's at Memorial for pediatric emergency care. It provides patients a full complement of diagnostic and treatment services as well as heart and vascular care. Memorial, offering medical and surgical services plus critical care, is an accredited Chest Pain Center with PCI by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care and is designated as an Acute Stroke Ready Hospital by the Illinois Department of Public Health. In addition, Memorial Belleville recently was accredited by the American College of Radiology as a designated Lung Cancer Screening Center. Since 2008, it has been designated as a Magnet-recognized organization for nursing excellence by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Memorial Hospital Shiloh, a 94-bed, all-private suite hospital was recognized with Magnet status in 2018 and provides emergency care, labor & delivery, nursery, medical and surgical services plus critical care. Speech Therapy includes speech, language, cognitive and swallowing assessments performed at bedside or in Radiology as appropriate to patient conditions and the nature of the assessment. Audiology assessments are performed on both inpatients and outpatients. Preferred Qualifications Role Purpose The Registered Speech Pathologist or Speech Therapist provides skilled speech and swallow therapy services to patients including all aspects of evaluation and treatment. Responsibilities Establishes treatment plan and provides treatment, considering discharge needs; expected discharge functional status; and appropriate equipment and supplies.Educates, collaborates with, and conferences with patients, families, and other health care providers; making recommendations for referrals to specialists as needed.Delegates to assistants, techs, and students through written and verbal communication including determining the skill level or competency required to provide interventions to best meet the needs of the patient.Completes documentation in accordance with departmental policies.Provides assessment, reassessment, and/or consultations for Speech Services. Timely and accurate documentation and billing according to regulatory and third party requirements. Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance. This position may be assigned a specific mission to address in an emergency situation to assist in disaster response and recovery as part of the UPHDM Hospital Emergency Incident Command System. Situations of critical nature may require an individual to perform multiple talks until additional support can be obtained. Qualifications Education: Graduated from an accredited program in respective field. Experience: Experience in specialty area. License (s/Certifications: Current Iowa license as an SLP.-Current BLS (CPR). Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Must be able to communicate effectively with people of diverse professional backgrounds. Knowledge of basic computer skills. Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience preferred. Other: Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
