Job DescriptionDescription: Performs a variety of laboratory tests, many of which involve numerous steps and techniques, and require use of professional judgment. Tests are performed in Blood Bank, Coagulation, Hematology, Urinalysis, Microbiology, and Chemistry. Professional application of the theories and techniques of clinical laboratory science (including evaluation of quality control data) are used to produce reliable test results which aid the clinician in diagnosis and treatment. Has full access to patient health information. May have access to medication storage areas (excluding controlled substances) as related to job responsibilities. Requirements: Medical Technologist: Must have at least sixty semester hours of college with training in a certified Medical Technology training program. Must be currently registered or eligible by ASCP or AMT. Medical Laboratory Technician: Must have an associate's degree as a Medical Laboratory Technician and be registered or eligible by ASCP or AMT. Must possess full range of body motion to pass basic FIT test for position to include walking, kneeling, standing, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, reaching and sitting for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.

General Description of the Job Class Surgical Technologists (ST) are allied health professionals who assist in the preparation and care of surgical patients ranging from infancy to geriatrics under the general direction of a professional nurse. Duties and Responsibilities of this Level Level I - New graduate with up to 18 months of full-time equivalent experience. Perform all responsibilities in a manner that demonstrates Service Excellence towards patients, physicians, peers and other departments. Prepare Operating Room with appropriate instrumentation, equipment and supplies. Demonstrates correct and safe instrumentation passing and performs sponge, needle and instrument counts in a safe and accurate manner. Maintain technical skills to serve a patient population comprised of infancy to geriatric clients. Take calls and rotate shifts as required under the direction of a registered nurse. For Surgical Technologists with a dual role in an ambulatory environment, additional responsibilities may include: prepare patients for examinations and procedures in the surgical clinic setting; assist the physician during patient examination and procedures in the clinic; collect and label laboratory specimens for processing; reinforce postoperative instructions under direction of physician or RN; assist with incoming and outgoing patient calls under supervision of physician or RN; remove sutures/ staples, change sterile and non-sterile dressings, following DUHS policies and procedures, under direction of RN or physician; perform other clinical functions as delegated and supervised by the RN or physician; schedule and post surgical cases; coordinate complex scheduling of cases which require additional surgical support; update and file patient medical records. Join our Operating Room team as a Surgical Technologist in a Level I Trauma Center! The Surgical Technologist functions as an active member of the surgical team in the role of the scrub person. This includes assisting the Circulator with the preparation of the O.R. suite by reviewing the preference card for the appropriate supplies, assists with the gathering of equipment and instrumentation, practices department procedures for hand scrub, gowning and gloving, accurately prepares drugs under the supervision of the Registered Nurse Circulator, sets up sterile instruments, suture and all sterile supplies and maintains sterile field of instruments and supplies during procedures. The Surgical Technologist anticipates and communicates the surgeon's needs and has instruments & supplies readily available for use. New grads welcomed and encouraged to apply! Work Schedule: This is a 0.8 FTE (64 hours every two weeks). Work schedule will be a mix of day (7:00 am - 3:00 pm) and evening (3:00 pm - 11:00 pm) shifts, and occasional overnight (11:00 pm -7:00 am).
