In this role, you will be the business counsel for Capital One Software's highly visible and strategic international expansion. Capital One Software currently has customers in the U.S. and seeks to quickly increase its global footprint by offering its flagship products, Slingshot and Databolt, internationally. This requires dedicated legal expertise to navigate the complex challenges of global B2B software sales. This role is essential for enabling our Go-To-Market teams and ensuring our expansion is executed in a well-managed and compliant manner.
You will oversee all legal advice across international markets for both existing and new product launches. You will work closely with business leaders to understand the business intent, work with outside counsel and/or internal subject matter experts to identify legal obligations and risks, and then provide recommendations to help the business effectively manage those risks, including by revising user-facing content, drafting product terms and disclosures, and assisting with contractual modifications. Due to the business' rapid international growth, this is a highly visible role within the Legal Department and Capital One and offers a chance to develop meaningful relationships across the enterprise. You should be comfortable thinking "outside the box". Your (to be learned) understanding of Capital One's banking history and technology journey, the commercial software industry, and applicable international law will allow you to work around the corners of novelty.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Providing strategic, clear and contextualized legal advice to business development, go to market, marketing, operations, product development, and tech teams on a variety of complex issues and topics
* Translating applicable laws, regulations, and legal requirements into actionable advice
* Collaborating with international colleagues and outside counsel to ensure compliance with applicable foreign laws and regulations
* Developing and maintaining legal resources that are required for products, such as terms of service and other disclosures
* Helping design and implement legal department and compliance processes to keep up with our growth and facilitate further expansion
* Building relationships and collaborating with business stakeholders across Capital One
* Understanding business needs and providing appropriate solutions to reach the desired goals
* Working autonomously, but also working collaboratively with other members of the Legal Department to provide advice in a consistent, well-reasoned manner
Basic Qualifications:
* Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
* Active member in good standing of at least one state bar
* At least 4 years of experience as an attorney in a law firm environment, at a government agency, as a military judge advocate, or as in-house counsel
Preferred Qualifications:
* 5+ years of experience as an attorney in a law firm, at a government agency, as a military judge advocate, or as in-house counsel
* 2+ years of experience in advising technology companies or banks
* Experience advising technology or financial services companies on marketing, regulatory, or product development matters
* Experience advising multinational companies on international aspects of their operations
* Ability to build collegial and effective relationships with attorneys, business managers, creative teams, analysts, project managers, and corporate compliance professionals
* Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to influence others

The Opportunity:
You will report to the AVP of Technology Business Services and lead in designing, developing and implementing an application and business architecture blueprint. You will provide guidance with aligning business processes, information management, applications and technical architectures to support the business strategy. You will be responsible for hiring, terminating, and performance reviews of personnel.
The Day-to-Day:
* Manage the application development team to ensure quality on time deliverables
* Support implementation of talent management processes for the application development team
* Develop a team structure that aligns skills sets of the development team against business deliverables
* Engage with business and IT initiatives to help ensure solution development is aligned with our goals and architectural principles
* Lead business process and information architecture design activities
* Propose informed ideas on technology strategy and direction
* Contribute to and help coordinate the efforts of the Technology Team
* Define and coordinate the activities of various architecture working groups
* Work with technology leaders to decide technology direction, set goals consistent with the business strategy, and communicate progress
* Develop and deliver communications on the Architecture program to business sponsors, solution developers, and infrastructure engineers
* Coordinate specific line of business architecture efforts with those of the overall Enterprise
* Work with the AVP to develop and manage architecture processes to establish sound architectural practices in all phases of the solution development lifecycle
* Recommend to the AVP the appropriate information and application architecture approaches for distributed component services and information flow
* Develop and proactively manage the portfolio of application and technology initiatives
Your Qualifications:
* 7 years of management experience.
* 4 years of experience leading/managing teams that successfully released Azure-based projects/features (Azure Data Factory, Function Apps, Logic Apps)
* Broad technology experience throughout systems development lifecycle, and various areas of technology architecture (infrastructure, application architecture, data architecture, integration)
* Strong knowledge of processes and technologies used in the securities industry
* Experience managing development teams to achieve tight time frames on budget
* Be a coach, building the design and development skills of other team members
* Experience in business process modeling
* Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university or equivalent experience
