CCLA is currently seeking a hardworking, compassionate Attorney that will be responsible for providing legal assistance and representation to individuals under 60 years old regarding eligibility and access to services for Medicare, Medicaid, Health Insurance Marketplace, Long-Term Care, and financial assistance programs. The Attorney will also be responsible for providing legal assistance and representation to individuals regarding eligibility for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
Specific Role & Responsibilities:
Provides legal advice and assistance on eligibility and access to services for Medicare, Medicaid, Health Insurance Marketplace, Long-Term-Care, and financial assistance programs, including representing clients for Healthcare Administration (AHCA) and Department of Children and Families (DCF) hearings.
Provides legal advice and assistance to clients in SSDI/SSI cases, including representing clients at hearings before an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ), in Appeals Council appeals, and potentially in Federal Court as applicable. Conducts client interviews to gather information, investigates fact situations, gathers and evaluates evidence, witnesses, drafts letters, emails, memoranda, pleadings, briefs, assists with applications and appeals, completes forms, reviews agency notices, reviews medical records or other client documents, performs legal research and communication with outside agencies.
Responsible for supervising legal interns and paralegals who have been assigned to cases within their practice areas.
Attends unit meetings, complies with all program and unit forms and directives, completes monthly case reports, reports to the unit on development in their area of expertise.
Returns client's calls/emails in a timely manner, maintain records, case notes, and daily time-keeping in CCLAs case management system.
Responsible for substantial compliance with the CCLA Program Priority Plan within their particular areas of specialization and consonant with the Legal Services Corporation guidelines.
Performs community outreach events in person and/or virtually, as well as, on social media and conducts educational trainings for staff, clients, and community providers, in accordance with CCLA's outreach policy, and as needed.
Maintains compliance with program and grant requirements, which includes preparing grant reports.
Performs all other duties as assigned and/or requested by Management, Supervisors, or as required by grant(s).
Position Requirements:
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school. Florida bar membership in good standing.
Experience or demonstrated interest in working with people with disabilities and/or lower socioeconomic status preferred.
Prior healthcare or public benefit experience, particularly with Medicare/Medicaid, or SSDI/SSI is preferred.
Flexible, effective, written and oral communication skills. Ability to multitask, organize, detail-oriented, prioritize, and manage a diverse case load. Must have the ability to work efficiently and independently with supervision.
Capable of acting with substantial degree of independence and working as part of a team is essential.
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

Specific Position Duties Include:

Prepares for court hearings and mediations by analyzing probable outcome of cases, using knowledge of legal precedent, strategize and prepare arguments, direct examinations, cross examinations, client and witness testimony and evidence, and presentation of cases.
Litigates cases including but not limited to: motions and full evidentiary hearings and trials in court, remotely and in person.
Drafting of legal documents and pleadings such as petitions, affidavits, notices, and relevant motions.
Reviews and evaluates applications for case acceptance.
Searches for and examines public and legal records to support cases.
Supervises paralegals. Assigns work to paralegals, reviews all paralegals' work, and monitors workload.
Communicates case progress, status, issues and outcomes to supervising attorney(s) and/or Director.
Oversees status of cases through case management system.
Conducts outreach presentations at cultural and age specific community agencies and will actively participate in coordinated community response coalitions which collaborate on domestic and intimate partner violence services and victims' rights. Member in good standing of The Florida Bar.
Civil trial practice experience in a law school clinical setting and/or a law firm.
Strong organizational skills and ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
Ability to effectively engage a diverse constituency of individuals and community stakeholders.
Demonstrate resourcefulness and the ability to take initiative in the development and completion of projects.
Computer literate includes proficiency in Google and Microsoft applications.

Attorneys at LSNF have the ability to work collaboratively with superior legal professionals in civil litigation and administrative law to strategize and advocate on behalf of clients and seek justice. Applicants should be a member of The Florida Bar in good standing, with preference given to candidates with public interest or legal aid experience. Candidates must have strong organizational and communication skills, be comfortable interacting with clients, and have a desire to advocate. Applicants must complete Legal Services of North Florida online employment application and submit a resume to be considered for this position.
Salary offers depend on experience. Applicants who have recently passed the Bar exam but do not have attorney experience can expect an entry salary of $70,000.00. Candidates with ten years of experience or more can expect salary range of $89,600.00 or higher. Candidates with 20 years of experience or more can expect salary range of $110,800.00 or higher.

Personal or vacation leave earnings equal 2.4 weeks a year and after two years, increases to five weeks per year
