As a member of the Facilities Management team, this position will perform general housekeeping tasks in various campus buildings. Primary responsibilities include cleaning, scrubbing, mopping, sweeping, sanitizing, polishing and refilling consumable items.
Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED equivalent with at least one year of custodial or related work experience. Summary
Utilizing excellent customer service and high attention to detail, perform general custodial duties as directed by departmental leadership.

Essential Functions:
* Upon direction and training from the Team Lead of Custodial Services, following established cleaning procedures and techniques.
* Completes duties not limited to sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping floors; dusting and polishing furniture and woodwork.
* Cleans restrooms and replenishes supplies.
* Empties and cleans waste and recycling receptacles; picks up paper and trash.
* Cleans relight glass, windows, and walls.
* Cleans decks, balconies, sidewalks, offices, laundry rooms, and common space areas.
* Sets up, moves, and arranges furniture and equipment.
* Turns out lights and locks doors and windows, as required.
* Maintains custodial areas and equipment so they are clean and presentable.
* Unloads supply deliveries and organizes materials as needed.
* Launder housekeeping materials as requested by leadership.
* Works on special projects and cleans other facilities, as assigned.
* Reports all matters of safety to the Supervisor.
* Follows all University and departmental policies and procedures.
* Performs other duties as assigned by departmental leadership.
Other Functions:
* May volunteer as an essential employee as designated in the Facilities Management Severe Weather Policy.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Ability to read and understand safety procedures, cleaning instructions, and schedules.

What You'll Do
Perform general cleaning throughout residence hall buildings, including common areas, restrooms, offices, and other assigned spaces
Maintain floors using a variety of methods such as vacuuming, mopping, scrubbing, stripping, and waxing
Clean and disinfect bathrooms, fixtures, furniture, and high-touch surfaces
Restock supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper in assigned areas
Collect and remove trash and recycling throughout the building

Assist with basic upkeep such as changing light bulbs and reporting maintenance concerns
Support conferences and events by handling linens, room setup, and cleanup as needed

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Performs cleaning in all areas of a building.
Performs cleaning of all floor areas such as vacuuming, shampooing, sweeping, mopping, stripping, scrubbing, waxing, and buffing.

Collects trash from receptacles throughout the building and empties it into various areas.
Performs duties in the immediate exterior of building such as sweeping sidewalks, snow and ice removal at entrances, cleaning debris from grounds and window wells, and occasional cleaning exterior windows.
Picks up and returns equipment for repair by maintenance.
Delivers housekeeping supplies to designated areas.
Operates high pressure, water-cleaning apparatus to clean and disinfect rug runners, and showers.
Occasionally maintains inventory of linen and record of lined laundering and maintains inventory of custodial supplies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of standard cleaning techniques and characteristics of surfaces to be cleaned, and equipment and supplies required.
Ability to move furniture and objects in preparation for cleaning; to load and unload trash receptacles; to operate safely and properly care for power machinery; to use arm muscles in hand cleaning, mopping, and scrubbing for protracted periods of time; to work on ladders.
Knowledge of proper bending and lifting techniques and ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
Ability to work in a variety of environments including crowded public areas and high and low temperature areas.
Knowledge of the safe use if chemical cleaning agents and possible hazards relating to environmental sanitation.
Ability to communicate effectively with others.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

• Locks and unlocks doors as required.
• Assists in unloading trucks, unpacking, assembling, and moving equipment and furniture.
• Picks up and returns equipment for repair by maintenance.
• Delivers housekeeping supplies to designated areas.
• Operates high pressure, water-cleaning apparatus to clean and disinfect rug runners, hospital equipment and showers.
• Maintains inventory of linen and record of lined laundering; maintains inventory of custodial supplies, and keeps and prepares other records and reports as directed.

• Knowledge of standard cleaning techniques and characteristics of surfaces to be cleaned, and equipment and supplies required.
• Ability to move furniture and objects in preparation for cleaning; to load and unload trash receptacles; to operate safely and properly care for power machinery; to use arm muscles in hand cleaning, mopping, and scrubbing for protracted periods of time; to work on ladders.
• Knowledge of proper bending and lifting techniques and ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
• Ability to work in a variety of environments including crowded public areas and high and low temperature areas.
• Knowledge of the safe use if chemical cleaning agents and possible hazards relating to environmental sanitation.
• Ability to communicate effectively with others.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

NATURE OF WORK
An employee in this class performs a variety of manual activities cleaning and maintaining buildings. An employee in this class also controls and performs minor maintenance to the building heating and air conditioning equipment. The employee performs a variety of duties in accordance with established practices and cleaning schedules. An employee in this class will introduce minor changes in procedures and solve simple problems before contacting a supervisor. The employee receives limited supervision.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Sweeps, mops, vacuums, strips, waxes and buffs floor surfaces.
Cleans restroom areas and replenishes paper supplies and soap as necessary.
Cleans windows, walls, woodwork, blinds and light fixtures.
Dusts and cleans desks and other furniture.
Empties trash receptacles; deposits recyclable material in proper receptacles.
Sweeps sidewalks and walkways outside of buildings; polices grounds, picking up debris; shovels snow and/or applies de-icing compounds to walkways and driveways, as necessary.
Replaces burned out light bulbs.
Prepares requisition forms to obtain necessary supplies for coming workweek.
Sets traps for rodents and other pests, appropriately discarding trapped animals.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Raises and lowers flags at start and end of workday.
Performs minor maintenance on appliances, as abilities will allow.
May open and secure buildings at start and end of workday, respectively; may turn on and off lights at start and end of day, respectively, and adjust heating or air conditioning, as appropriate.
May arrange furniture for meetings or other events.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Custodians with an effective date of hire 9/1/18 and beyond must hold a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsement or be willing and eligible to obtain a CDL driver's license with P/S endorsements at the next training opportunity. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
