MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A California teaching credential in the assigned subject area(s) and a valid English Learner Authorization are required. Applicants who will hold any of the following credentials by their start date are welcome to apply:
California Single Subject Credential in Social Science (Clear or Preliminary). Applicants will be required to provide a copy of the credential, or, if in progress, a status letter from their credential program.

This position is eligible for re-appointment for one additional year, subject to satisfactory performance and departmental needs. Candidates shall demonstrate the ability to lead either community planning studios or urban design studios. Teaching includes laboratory (studio) and lecture-format courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Learn-by-doing and project-based learning is the preferred teaching model. Studios may require working will real community clients such as cities, counties, or community-based organizations. Candidates who demonstrate proficiency in GIS will have a competitive advantage. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A master's degree in planning, landscape architecture, urban design, architecture, or closely related field is required.
- Five years of professional and/or teaching experience in the field of planning.

- Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with students, faculty, staff, and administrators from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

One of five departments in the College of Architecture and Environmental Design, the award-winning Department of City and Regional Planning offers two PAB-accredited professionally-oriented programs - a Bachelor of Science (BSCRP) and a Master of City and Regional Planning (MCRP). The bachelor's program provides strong preparation in land use, physical planning, and urban design. The master's program prepares graduates to provide leadership in urban and environmental planning and policy. There is a joint Master's degree in Transportation Planning with the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department. Interdisciplinary courses are offered with other college departments and there is a common interest in sustainability and collaboration. Advanced degree with an earned degree (minimum of Bachelor's degree) in City and Regional Planning, Landscape Architecture, Architecture or a degree that fulfills a special department need. One of five departments in the College of Architecture and Environmental Design, the award-winning Department of City and Regional Planning offers two PAB accredited professionally-oriented programs - a Bachelor of Science degree (BSCRP) and a Master of City and Regional Planning (MCRP). The bachelor's program provides strong preparation in land use, physical planning and urban design. Master's degree candidates work for professional practice in either urban land planning and development or regional and environmental planning. UCLA Extension seeks experienced, equity-minded educators to teach and support candidates in state-aligned teacher education and credential programs. The Instructor delivers high-quality online instruction that strengthens pedagogical practice, accelerates teacher growth, and ensures candidates are prepared to serve diverse learners-especially English learners-while meeting California credentialing requirements. The Instructor supports candidates through rigorous, practice-based learning, reflective coaching, and professional feedback aligned to program outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction and Course Delivery
Teach one or more online courses within CTEL/CLAD and/or Teacher Induction specializations, using UCLA Extension course shells and approved curriculum.
Facilitate engaging learning experiences that integrate theory-to-practice, including lesson planning, assessment, differentiation, and culturally responsive instruction.
Instructor Duties:
Instructor, Teacher Education and Credential Programs (CTEL/CLAD + Teacher Induction)
Teach assigned online courses within CTEL/CLAD and/or Teacher Induction (School Mentor Track and University Mentor Track).
Facilitate weekly course engagement (announcements, discussions, learning activities, and synchronous sessions when scheduled).
Deliver clear instruction on program expectations, state-aligned outcomes, and performance requirements.
Evaluate candidate work using program rubrics and provide timely, specific, growth-oriented feedback.
Support candidates in applying course learning to real classroom practice (lesson design, differentiation, assessment, EL supports).
Reinforce effective instruction for English learners, including integrated/designated ELD strategies, language objectives, and scaffolds.
Guide induction candidates through reflective cycles of inquiry (goals, evidence collection, analysis, action steps).
Communicate professionally and consistently with candidates; respond to inquiries within established turnaround times.

Qualifications Basic qualifications
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Education or a closely related field.

students What Youll Do See sample teacher schedules here A student school day is around 8 830am to 3 330pm depending on the specific school Teachers days shall begin no earlier than 800 am and end no later than 500 pm on any given workday Project Time Teach 90 minute blocks in high school or four 55 minute blocks in middle school per day of project time Most teachers teach one course for the entire grade eg 9th Grade Biology and see each section twice per week Teachers offer students deep learning experiences that develop cognitive skills and apply their content knowledge to real world situations Teachers facilitate discussions in the classroom coach students in applying their cognitive skills and give students feedback Between teaching blocks teachers analyze student data build lesson plans support school culture and other personal development activities Summit teachers build lesson plans through a deep understanding of student progress data which determines the group and individual supports needed for their students to succeed Mentor Time Build deep relationships and sense of community when teachers meet with their small group of mentees daily for their entire time at Summit Daily teachers meet with their mentor groups work on habits of success as a group and check in one on one with their mentees Mentors coach and advocate for their mentees both inside and outside of the classroom and strive to support them as they develop their sense of purpose as they become self directed learners Self Directed Learning Time and Interventions Facilitate Self Directed Learning time and daily literacy or math interventions which dont involve lesson planning During this time teachers provide student support monitor progress and check in with individuals or groups of students Collaboration & Professional Development Twice a week teachers participate in all faculty after school meetings where community decisions are made professional development takes place and faculty
