50% Media preparation and disposal Prepare media for use in all Microbiology labs for use with experiments. Dispose of used media by learning to run an autoclave for proper and safe disposal. Restock any items needed for the preparation of media: petri plates, tubes, caps, flasks etc. Learn to use several pieces of equipment to make media and to dispose of media: autoclaves, omnispense, steam kettle, etc. Clean any used reusable media preparation items-flasks, bottles, tubing for media machines etc. 50% General housekeeping Washing dishes and bins, doing laundry, putting away clean dishes and bins once they are dry. In addition, the Laboratory Technician II will have the technical training and experience required to perform regulated clinical laboratory test realization (i.e., test specimen receipt through test result generation) using standard in-vitro laboratory techniques. Team members are also expected to operate a proprietary LIMS and may contribute to input and design reviews depending on experience. The position also operates in a cross-functional matrix organization working across departments, including Development, Customer Service, Accounting, Quality, Operations, the Laboratory Directors, and other departments as needed. Ongoing training will be provided to supplement key skills required to perform the functions of this position as applicable. The primary responsibilities of this role include efficiently setting up and dismantling laboratory sessions, providing technical assistance to the students and instructor during the lab, and ensuring the availability of necessary supplies and equipment. Responsibilities: Collaborate with instructors and other Lab Assistants to plan and prepare laboratory experiments and activities. Organize and arrange equipment, materials, chemicals, and instruments needed for each lab session. Ensure that all lab stations are set up accurately and safely, following established protocols and guidelines. Efficiently dismantle lab stations, clean equipment and/or glassware, handle the disposal of waste under the guidance of the instructor, and store materials properly after each lab session. Maintain a neat and organized lab environment, ensuring that all lab stations are ready for the next session. The physics department is in search of a self-motivated student who is eligible for the work-study program to assist with lab prep, prep room organization and clean-up. The student may be asked to attempt supervised small item repair or to investigate the usefulness of some of the older lab equipment.
