The Financial Case Manager's primary responsibility is to provide financial counseling to patients and families, including insurance benefit education, responding to financial inquiries, and collecting and processing co-pays and deductibles in accordance with ARS policies and procedures. In addition, the role supports Case Management functions by ensuring compliance with State and Federal guidelines, participating in discharge planning, completing discharge needs assessments, coordinating aftercare services and appointments, and collaborating with the treatment team, payors, and facility leadership to support continuity of care. Works effectively with the facility leadership team to ensure success of the facility by completing the following: Core Job Duties: Serve as the primary financial counselor for patients, providing education on insurance benefits, financial responsibility, billing policies, and payment options. Verify and validate patient insurance benefits and financial responsibility by first reviewing the UR Daily Census column to assess the daily status of insurance coverage, followed by checks in approved payer portals (e.g., InstaMed, NaviNet, Availity, or other designated systems), and conducting live payor calls as needed for inactive, unclear, or unresolved coverage. Collect private pay fees, co-pays, and insurance deductibles within 72 hours of admission for inpatient and outpatient clients, in accordance with the "Collection of Patient Responsibility" policy. Ensure completion and signature of all required financial and admission-related documentation within 72 hours of admission, including but not limited to billing acknowledgments, payment plans, advance repayment agreements, coordination of benefits, authorized claims representative forms, and the initial Case Management Discharge Plan (CMDP). Facilitate payment arrangements and advance repayment agreements when co-pays or deductibles are not immediately collectible and notify leadership as needed. Collaborate with the Admissions/RCM team to resolve collection barriers and secure (at minimum) agreed-upon payments at the time of admission. Maintain accurate, timely documentation of all financial transactions, co-pay and deductible activity, and payment arrangements within the electronic medical record. Work closely with Facility Leadership (Site CEO) and Aftercare Manager to ensure consistent financial processes and patient support. Maintain open communication with the multidisciplinary treatment team regarding financial considerations that may impact treatment engagement or discharge planning. Requirements Bachelors' Degree in health-related field, Finance/Accounting or Medical Management office experience preferred. Minimum high school diploma. Minimum one- or two-years' experience, preferred experience in the medical, behavioral healthcare or financial field. HOW YOU'LL SUCCEED * Answer incoming crisis hotline calls, texts, and chats with professionalism and empathy. * De-escalate individuals in crisis using active listening, validation, and problem-solving techniques. * Determine the severity of a crisis, including screening for the risk of harm to self or others, and respond accordingly. * Collaborate with emergency responders, clinicians, and community resources when necessary. * Conduct risk determinations using standardized tools and guidelines. * Provide callers with appropriate referrals to mental health services, community resources, and emergency services when needed. * Maintain knowledge of local, state, and national mental health resources. * Accurately document all calls, interventions, and referrals in the electronic health record (EHR) or crisis documentation system. * Adhere to all HIPAA, confidentiality, and ethical guidelines. * Participate in required training, supervision, and professional development. Requirements KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE * High School Diploma required. * Qualified Behavioral Health Specialist (QBHS) designation preferred. * Prior experience in customer service, crisis intervention, social services, or behavioral health strongly preferred. WORKING CONDITIONS * Work will generally be performed on-site. * Work involves potential exposure to patients experiencing agitation, which may increase risk for disruptive or aggressive behavior. * Flexibility to work evenings and extended hours is required. * Requires periods of sitting, standing, telephone, and computer work. * Hearing: adequate to hear clients or patients in person, over the telephone or through telehealth technology. * Speaking: adequate to speak to clients or patients in person, over the telephone or through telehealth technology. * Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens. * Physical effort required: occasional lifting and carrying items weighing up to 15 pounds, unassisted. * Possible exposure to blood borne pathogens while performing job duties. * Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting, with some lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular workday. * Sufficient dexterity to operate a PC and other office equipment. HOW YOU'LL SUCCEED * Provides de-escalation and crisis intervention to individuals experiencing crisis. * Works with individuals in crisis to problem-solve and identify solutions for resolving the crisis or assists in arranging assessment and treatment in an appropriate setting. * Works with individuals' family members and support system to engage in safety planning and the crisis resolution process. * Assists in creation of an immediate plan to maintain safety. * Provides coordination of care and linking to appropriate treatment services to meet the needs of the individual. * Provides follow up contact within two business days (or according to protocol) following a crisis episode to individuals returning to their community setting to check on referrals and identify further needs. * Collaborates with agency staff, departmental staff, stakeholders, and referral sources on individual cases and to ensure strong community relationships. * Participates in clinical, administrative, and supervisory meetings. * Maintains administrative and clinical files, reports, spreadsheets, and correspondence. * Complete trainings as assigned. * Always represents Signature Health in a professional manner; includes maintenance of appropriate professional appearance as outlined in the dress code policy, and demonstration of respectful interactions with patients and team members. Requirements KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE * High School Diploma required. * Qualified Behavioral Health Specialist (QBHS) designation or Peer Support Specialist (PSS) with at least one year of experience in substance use and mental health with minimum 2 years in recovery and plan for maintaining recovery is required. Crisis experience preferred. * Must possess a valid unencumbered Ohio driver's license. * American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. * Demonstrated knowledge of the local Mental Health System. * Must possess basic computer skills to perform job duties including desktop computing, email, time sheet management, electronic health records, using Microsoft Office Applications, ADP and other relevant software. * Must have basic electronic communication and internet skills to gather information required for the program or program participants.
