GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Medical Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for the provision of comprehensive, quality-assured laboratory services for all public health department divisions. The Medical Laboratory Supervisor oversees all laboratory activities and has the responsibility for testing that affects the public health of Durham County.
The Medical Laboratory Supervisor must function with a high level of self-direction and work independently on a daily basis to solve patient care and analytical issues as they arise. This position is expected to engage effectively in discussions with the Laboratory Director, Administrative Director, and Clinicians.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Daily position expectations include the following:
* Provide technical expertise for all areas of the laboratory including phlebotomy services
* Serve as a resource to clinicians and others who utilize the services of the laboratory
* Act as a technical consultant for all areas of the laboratory including instrumentation, methodology, quality control, specimen integrity and phlebotomy
* Interact with a variety of laboratory and public health personnel as well as external customers
Supervisory expectations include the following:
* Create and maintain employee schedules to ensure adequate laboratory coverage
* Maintain competency in all areas of the laboratory and phlebotomy in order to assist with workload regularly

The Lab Technician position functions as essential support for the analytical needs of Heritage-Crystal Clean by assuming responsibility for all aspects of laboratory analysis, documentation, review, and reporting, along with all applicable QC testing and documentation.
The Lab Technician position relies on instruction and pre-established procedures and works under immediate supervision. The Lab Technician position is staffed 24/7/365 and works 12hr rotating shifts.
Essential Duties:
* Lab Analysis
* Performing required test parameters on all sample types
* Any additional testing as required
* Accurate written and electronic documentation and reporting
* Communication with multiple departments via written and electronic methods
* Utilize safe work practices and adhere to all facility safety policies
* Understand and execute emergency response duty of opening 10th St. gate
* General housekeeping
