Job Description: This position will help Markit! execute various forestry projects and be responsible for assisting in the proper maintenance, preparation and operation of all tools and equipment including hand tools, chainsaws, chippers, and heavy machinery. This position will report to and work closely with the Project Foreman and Superintendent.
Location: Projects may be located throughout the State of California and surrounding states.
Travel: 50-75% but may be up to 100% depending on the project assignment. Lodging and per diem provided as well as adequate time off for rest.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Operate Markit!'s heavy forestry equipment (e.g. Skidder, Feller Buncher, Log Loader, Harvester, Delimber, Masticator, Tracked Skidder, Dozer, Excavator, Chipper) as appropriate for each project.
Perform chainsaw felling operations, including directional felling, limbing, and bucking.
Manage slash operations, including lop-and-scatter, chipping, and hauling.
Perform road work, excavation, lifting work, site clean-up, etc.
Control erosion by contour felling and LEB creation and installation.
Responsible for completing and submitting proper daily inspections and maintenance on assigned machine(s), requesting any necessary repairs/maintenance from the Fleet Department.
Adhere to Markit!'s safety standards and promote safety culture among crew members, including the proper use of machinery and equipment and resolve problems when they arise.
Participate in weekly job site maintenance training conducted by the Foreman.
Perform equipment repairs/maintenance.
Prepare to spend multiple overnights at project sites, as necessary.
General forestry labor, as necessary and appropriate.
Requirements:
1- 3 years of experience in operating heavy machinery, forestry industry preferred.
18 years of age or older.
Must possess a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
Must pass pre-employment background check.
Ability to work in a team and independently.
Excellent communication skills.
Have the ability and desire to perform strenuous outdoor work on rough terrain in a variety of inclement weather conditions.
Quick and able learner with strong leadership skills and a keen eye for details and good decision-making and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work under pressure and stress and handle emergency situations.
Effectively complete work projects on time.
Ability to utilize safety procedures.
Physical ability to bend, squat and lift up to 50 pounds.
Technical skills and ability to use a smart phone and/or tablet.

Essential Functions of the Job:
Working hours are 7:00 am till 5:30 pm Monday through Friday (subject to change due to project demands, weather, etc.), with a 30-minute lunch break. Must be willing to work overtime, standby, and some weekends.
The job may entail heavy physical labor, which requires strength and agility. Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 lbs.
You may be required to climb, kneel, crouch, twist, lift, carry, drag, balance, push, and/or pull.
All projects are outdoors, in all weather and temperature extremes, and regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. Occasionally, the noise level in the work environment is loud.
Safety equipment, or PPE, is always required, such as hard hats, safety vest, safety glasses, appropriate footwear, and seat belts. (A back support brace can be issued upon request)
Must have good manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and balance.
Must be able to read and understand warning signs and labels on a construction site and interpret plans, drawings, written instructions, and specifications.

Complete all paperwork accurately including batch sheets, packaging counts and bills of lading
Maintain and communicate information with the other shifts
Provide support to Plant operations as needed
Maintenance
Complete MaintainX work requests for maintenance issues
Inspect plant equipment daily and report any issues to Supervisor
Must be able to work overtime, provide physical labor and work changing shifts as required to meet business requirements.
Perform other duties as assigned in support of business goals and objectives.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Requires planning skills to prioritize daily packaging requirements
Must be able to pay attention to detail
Knowledge of general manufacturing equipment and forklift operation
Must be dependable, flexible, and able to respond on short notice to satisfy requirements of customers.
The ability to communicate with others clearly and succinctly, both verbally and in written form.
Ability to utilize and perform minimal computer tasks Microsoft Office
EDUCATION:
A High School Diploma or GED
EXPERIENCE:
Chemical, Pharmaceutical or Food manufacturing environment, preferred
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Must be able to obtain Forklift License through USALCO within 14 calendar days of being hired.
Routinely lift 50 to 75 lbs. throughout the shift
Routinely stand 60 to 70% of shift
Routinely must traverse ship ladders, catwalks and close quarters

Requirements:

Comfortable with lifting up to 40 lbs and standing for extended periods
