General Function:
The main function of this position is to support Santa Fe Public Schools in achieving organizational sustainability through educational projects, initiatives, and outreach that advance the goals of the SFPS Sustainability Guide. The Sustainability Education Specialist supports, develops, and implements programming that increases climate and environmental literacy amongst SFPS students, educators, and staff. Essential Job Responsibilities

Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) is a federally funded grant program under the auspices of the New Mexico Higher Education Department to ensure the program's college and career readiness goals and objectives are met successfully.
General Function:
Tutors help students achieve academic and personal excellence under direct supervision of the site Principal, GEAR UP Coordinator, and with the assistance of the Math Core teacher(s). Actively participate in the learning, growth, and personal development of students to prepare students to successfully attend college.
Education/Training/Experience
(Basic minimum requirements are subject to change from time to time to meet the needs of the District.)
Minimum: Bachelor's degree or evidence of earned college credit in the field of education; or enrollment in a science, math, or liberal arts Bachelor's program.
Preferred: Previous student tutoring or mentoring experience, community-based academic support program. Strong math background. Bilingual: English-Spanish
Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:
Passionate belief in the ability of all students to graduate college-ready; former AVID or GEAR UP program participation or experience working with a school; excellent writing skills; Ability to work well with middle and high school students; culturally competent, meaning they deal easily with multiple ethnic groups; strong organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and an ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents. Strong analytical and problem solving skills; demonstrated responsibility and reliability.
Essential Job Functions
All functions are performed in accordance with established policies, procedures, safety and environmental regulations, facility and computer security policies and procedures. Functions are subject to change from time to time to meet the needs of the organization. Current essential functions include the following:
Take an active role in developing the academic and personal strengths of GEAR UP students.
Serve as a role model/mentor to GEAR UP students by being a lifelong learner, demonstrating appropriate academic and social behaviors, and wearing appropriate attire at all times.
Determine the concepts that need to be taught or retaught from student's notes and discussions.
Evaluate student binders, including calendars, class and textbook notes, etc.
Become familiar with the textbooks and materials used by GEAR UP math students.
Set an example of personal excellence and high expectations for GEAR UP students to follow.
Work with students in any phase of the writing process, such as brainstorming, clustering, revision, and editing.
Communicate frequently and honestly with the GEAR UP coordinator/teacher regarding students' progress and areas of concern.
Other related duties as assigned.

Student Teacher Placement Requirements
Student teachers requesting placement in the Rio Rancho Public Schools District are required to:
submit an Online Student Teaching Application,
complete a Background/Fingerprint Check.
complete paperwork packet with Substitute Services Specialist
Contact HRSubstitute Services Specialist Claudine Baldwin, ************** ext. 51243, to obtain detailed instructions for obtaining the background check and to schedule an appointment to complete required paperwork. Upon completion of all required paperwork, as well as confirmation of a clear background check, the site administrator will be notified by Substitute Services that the student teacher is cleared to report for their assignment.
Should any problems arise, the cooperating teacher should first contact the designated school administrator who, in turn, should contact the university director or coordinator for assistance as needed.
Substituting During Student Teaching
Student Teacher may Substitute for the cooperating teacher only if permitted by the attending university/college.
Documentation must be provided to Human Resources.
Student Teacher must apply through Kelly Education in order to Substitute.
UNM: Student teachers may not substitute for more than 10 days for their mentor teacher without permission from college and HR Operations Manager.
