RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assesses incidents, complaints, accidents, and/or potential emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety issues and reporting the situation to the Director of Transportation for additional review.
Assists students and other passengers (e.g. seating, restraints, special equipment, lifts, etc.) for the purpose of providing proper positioning and/or safe loading and unloading from buses including both emergency situations (including bus evacuations) and normal transport.
Communicates with parents, students, teachers, administrators, other drivers, dispatcher, etc. for the purpose of conveying and/or receiving information.
Conducts reviews of safety and evacuation procedures (e.g. location of emergency kits, proper operation of two-way radios, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safety and security of bus passengers.
Driver schools' vehicles for the purpose of transporting regular education and/or special education students over scheduled routes and to/from school and/or field trips in a safe and timely manner.
Maintains assigned vehicle interior (e.g. fuel, scratch, and dent checks, cleaning floors/windows/seats, etc. for the purpose of ensuring safety, appearance, and sanitation of the vehicle.
Monitors students during transit for the purpose of maintaining order and ensuring the safety of passengers.
Performs pre-trip and intra-stop inspections (e.g. child checks, fluids, gauges, tires, exterior condition, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safe operation condition of the vehicle and to meet state requirements.
Prepares documentation (e.g. daily mileage, drivers log, vehicle inspections reports, vehicle repair reports, incident/accident reports, school bus incident reports, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
Recommends route adjustments for the purpose of coordinating bus routes and maximizing the District's transportation services.
Verifies student access and egress from the bus (e.g. bus passes, tags, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that riders load and unload from the bus at their designated stop.
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; providing information and/or advising others; operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to significantly impact the organization's services.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Incumbent must achieve the following outcomes with or without reasonable accommodation:
Operates the vehicle in a safe manner in accordance with district policies and safety practices and federal/state/ regulations including ensuring that bus operating problems identified through diagnostic checks have been resolved, conducting pre-and post-trip inspections, ensuring the interior of the bus is clean and presentable and that the vehicle is properly fueled according to facility procedures.

Under the supervision of the Lead Transportation Manager, the Essential Piece Van Transportation Driver will play a key role in ensuring our special education students arrive at school and return home safely, comfortably, and on time each school calendar day. As a key representative of our school community, the Essential Piece Van Transportation Driver helps create a positive, welcoming, and secure environment for all student passengers while maintaining high standards of care a vehicle safety.
The Essential Piece Van Transportation Driver will be operating primarily before and after school.
Hours during school in-session days are as follows:
Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays: 6:30 AM to 8:30 AM; and 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM
Wednesdays: 6:30 AM to 8:30 AM; and 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM
*Safe driver training will be provided. No CDL is required!
*Additional hours for special activities may be available. These activities include Special Olympics events and field trips.
Transportation staff are crucial in the everyday functioning of students. To perform well and faithfully the duties assigned below by AZACS Essential Piece Transportation in accordance with its policies, rules, and regulations, including, but not limited to the following:
Drivers:
Must have and maintain a valid, current driver's license with a clean driving record for the past 5 years.
Must obey all traffic laws
Must assist with helping students put backpacks and other items away in the van/bus
Assist students on and off the van/bus
Buckle students; make sure they are secured safely in the van/bus
Fill out the mileage logs provided in the van/bus binder
Report any damage to the vehicle
Advise administration immediately of any maintenance lights that come on the van/bus, or any item that needs to be addressed
Must remove trash from inside the vehicle and keep the van clean at all times
The driver cannot be using the phone while driving (talking/texting)
Use a card provided to place gas in the vehicle
Notify the administration when in need of a new gas card
Monitor the needs of students and be ready to pull over safely and assist with behavior if necessary
Must have and retain a valid AZ fingerprint clearance card
May need to drive other routes if necessary

SUMMARY
This position requires a professional transport (truck) driver to drive an IMSA transporter (with trailer) to and from events and/or fly to and from events. In addition to professional truck driving duties, this position is also responsible for set-up and teardown of equipment utilized throughout the event week/weekend as well as maintaining all equipment in a functional and professional appearing manner.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Drive transporter, often on an interstate basis, for all required events. Must be able to drive to events as prescribed while maintaining all Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements necessary to operate a transporter (i.e., Commercial Driver's License, testing, drive time regulations, etc.).
Truck and trailer loading and unloading; setting up and breaking down of awnings, tech equipment and any equipment as needed.
Truck and trailer scheduling and minor maintenance.
Work to support all weekend officials by maintaining equipment and supplies; staff any IMSA trailers as needed.
Responsible for equipment maintenance and care including cleaning, restocking and upkeep.
Prepare truck logs, complete timecards, and fuel reports after all trips.
After performing set-up duties at the race event, will also be asked to perform other tasks to help augment other staffing needs around other departments.
Required to operate forklifts and supporting equipment.
Periodically work at the IMSA transportation hub on off-event days.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ensure the comfort and safety of passengers, including assisting individuals in boarding and exiting the bus;
Serves as the Driver for club and organization trips as scheduled;
Provide transportation in support of the Center for Career Development for student internship trips;
Provide transportation in support of academic field trips;
Provide medical transportation and inclement weather transportation;
Monitor and enforce college transportation policies and safety procedures;
Enforce the college's Student Code of Conduct and report all violations in writing in a timely manner to the appropriate college official;
Conduct pre- and post-trip safety vehicle inspections and report any maintenance or safety concerns;
Log shuttle trips, mileage, and Code of Conduct violations in accordance with college and regulatory requirements;
Maintain a strong customer service orientation with students, parents, staff and faculty;
Communicate effectively with supervisor, passengers, and other appropriate individuals regarding schedules, delays, or emergencies;
Ensure the assigned bus is kept in a clean and presentable manner;
Follow all traffic laws and college safety regulations;

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
