The current full-time commitment includes 156 clinical shifts. Surgeons are expected to comply with all Oregon State Trauma program requirements and expected to actively participate in quality improvement projects and community outreach education. POSITION OVERVIEW: Surgeon is responsible for providing medical, surgical treatment, and follow up for patients treated with severe and life-threatening traumatic injuries, critical illness or emergency general surgery conditions. Surgeon will work with providers in other specialties, as needed, to stabilize and treat patients. Surgeon assesses and manages patients following established standards and practices. Work schedule: Varied shift work in the hospital and in clinics that equates to 156 shifts per year for full time. Shifts are comprised of day shifts and night shifts in the hospital or a day shift in the clinic. Currently, a hospital day shift is 7am-7pm and a hospital night shift is 6pm-7am providing an hour of overlap. Clinic shift hours vary with patient volume demands but do not exceed 8 am to 8 pm. Back-up shifts, either day or night in the hospital follow the same hours but are only reimbursed and counted toward the annual shift requirement if the surgeon is called in and works more than 6 hours. A surge shift occurs when the surgeon is called in and works less than six hours, which does not count toward the annual shift requirement.
